Newsletter Term 2 Week 8 (17.6.22)
Dear Parents
St Anthony’s Feast Day was on the 13th June which was last Monday and was a Public Holiday. We celebrated our special feast day yesterday. It was a fantastic day that I’m sure all the students thoroughly enjoyed. The day started with a whole school Mass that was an event in itself as we haven’t had a whole school Mass in a very long time. With the installation of the projectors in the Church it made the singing and the students responding to the parts of the Mass much clearer and especially the little ones much easier to follow.
Following lunch we had a Tabloid that was organised for the students where groups from Kindergarten to year Six were combined together and participated in various activities. There were twenty different activities and the Year 6 leaders are to be commended for their leadership qualities especially assisting the younger students from the Infant grades.
The day concluded with a very large St Anthony’s Day cake and ice creams shared between all students.

FAYE GLEAVE OAM
Congratulations to the amazing Faye Gleave who was awarded the Order of Australia on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List long weekend. What a well deserved award to a fantastic lady who has served our community and our school for many years.
The Order of Australia is awarded to those who have been recognised for achievement and outstanding service by Australian citizens.
Faye first completed her first aid certificate in 1958 and became an instructor in 1974. Since then she has reportedly taught thousands of people to save lives including 6742 primary students from 27 schools including St Anthony’s School students.
Congratulations to Faye on an amazing achievement and being a real Kingscliff legend.
Athletics Update
Please read the following information carefully in regards to the running of the Athletics Carnival this year. The date of the carnival is Tuesday 28th June.
Shot Put - This was run during Dance Fever classes on Tuesday for those students that signed up. Well done to all the competitors. Those students that signed up from Year 3 will complete the Shot Put Tuesday 21st June during Dance Fever. Any other student that was away or sick will need to complete this event this Tuesday also at lunch time (if they signed up). This event will not be run at the carnival and is not compulsory and is ONLY FOR 8 YEARS and OLDER.
High Jump Trials - High Jump trials for competent students who can perform the scissor kick jump ONLY will take place on Tuesday 21st June at school starting at lunchtime with the 8 Years Boys and Girls. The Top 6 jumpers from this will qualify to compete in the High Jump finals at the Athletics Carnival in Week 10. Sign ups for this event have already taken place. Students are to see Mrs Croker on Tuesday if they would like to compete.
This event is not compulsory and is ONLY FOR 8 YEARS and OLDER.
800m
The 800m races will be the first event on the day of the Athletics Carnival.
Sign up sheets for this event are now on the sports notice board.
Age groups that will compete are: Junior Boys and Girls (8, 9 and 10 Years),
11 Years Boys and Girls and Senior Boys and Girls (12 and 13 Years). If your child would like to compete in this event they must sign up. This is not a compulsory event.
Long Jump and Discus
This year the Long Jump and Discus will be run a little differently to previous years.
Students will have the opportunity to sign up for Competitive or Noncompetitive in these events. This means that those who sign up for the competitive event will compete for points for Age Champion and the chance to represent the school at the Tweed Zone Carnival, as well as earn points for their house.
Students who sign up for Non-Competitive will be able to participate in the event and still earn points for their house. There will be 2 stations for each event running. Hopefully this will ensure maximum participation for both our serious contenders and those that still will compete and participate but mostly for important House points.
CPS Cross Country
This year we had 2 students compete at the Combined Primary Schools Cross Country at Eastern Creek in Sydney who represented the Lismore Diocese.
Well done to Harper Gallagher (10 Years) who came 9th overall in his race, fantastic effort.
Congratulations to William Middleton (8/9 Years) who placed 3rd overall in his race and he has now qualified to represent Polding and compete at the NSWPSSA Primary Cross Country in Sydney on 22nd July. Good Luck William we can’t wait to hear how you run!
