Newsletter Term 2 Week 4 (20.5.22)
Dear Parents
It has been a very disruptive start to Term 2. The weather has not been kind to us and the students have been restricted with limited access to the playground and other areas in the school .When they finally get out on the playground, often the grounds are not suitable for play. To make matters worse the Library has been out of bounds due to the flood damage so they cannot go in there for a quiet time. Now we have the music room totally out of bounds because of moisture from the floods seeping into the room. It now has to be reassessed to see if there is any ongoing damage that requires modification or removal.
The students however have shown great resilience and have adapted to the circumstances remarkably well. The teachers of St Anthony’s have been remarkable also. I have watched them collaborate and communicate with all stages of our school. The meaning of teamwork is often thrown around but in our case it has been thoroughly integrated to make difficult tasks so much easier. We often use the motto of our school “Love and Service” to describe St Anthony’s but in these difficult times it is actually visible.
Everyone has watched with anticipation the growth of our new playground. The workers are to be commended for their ability to work in very difficult conditions. The weather has affected their progress and the access to the site has created many problems. The students have watched with amazement the progress day to day and their eagerness to explore is obvious.
With everything happening around our school, the weather being so unpredictable, the building interruptions and the insurance assessments happening, it is reassuring to know that our number one priority in our school is your children.

Incitare Retreat
Last Friday, nine students from Year 6 were selected to attend the Diocesan Incitare Retreat Day. Incitare means to stir up, incite, urge, egg on – when the Holy Spirit comes into our lives we are incited to spread the Good News to all we encounter.
Students joined five of our neighbouring schools at the Murwillumbah Parish Meeting Centre and participated in a range of small and whole group activities. Small groups were skilfully led by St Joseph’s High School’s Ministry students.
Our Year 6 students reflected on what it is that they value as individuals. They shared stories of courage when communicating their faith to others and took part in role plays and discussions. The day culminated in a beautiful Liturgy.
Our students are grateful for this wonderful opportunity, and are now
planning to lead similar activities within their own classroom.
