Newsletter Term 2 Week 3 (13.5.22)
Dear Parents
Today we welcomed the interim Director of Catholic Schools for the Lismore Diocese, Jenny Allen, to our school. Jenny enjoyed visiting the classrooms and was impressed with how we do things at St Anthony’s and the friendliness of students and staff. Jenny was previously the Director of Catholic Schools in the Bathurst Diocese. Our previous director for the Lismore Diocese, Sally Towns, has now commenced her new role as Executive Director of schools in the Brisbane Archdiocese.
Even though it is raining at the moment, Sunday is still going ahead as planned. If it is to be called off we will send out a message via Compass on Sunday morning. Mass will still go ahead at 9.00am regardless of the weather! It is a Commitment Mass for many students who are preparing for their First Holy Communion so we look forward to seeing many families on Sunday.
This week we have had workers and builders in once again making further assessments on the library. It is currently being dried out. Moisture has impacted the skirting-boards as well as the carpet so more work is required to fix the room than was first thought. We have been informed that our music room has also been affected so it will require some re-furbishment also. We are hopeful that all will be completed by the end of term and we can have our library back next term. As difficult as it is to be without our spaces, we are still much luckier than some other schools in the Diocese.
Work is continuing on the new playground and I know lots of students are enjoying watching its progress and calculating how long it will take to completion! We thank the Parent Forum for their commitment to helping us with some funds towards this playground. At this week’s Forum meeting plans were being made for some fundraising activities during the year. Let’s all work together to support these once they are known.
We are well and truly into Kindergarten 2023 interviews so if you haven’t booked in a spot for your little one yet please do so soon. We have also been meeting new families moving into the area and looking to move their children to St Anthony’s. I am always delighted when I show prospective families around at how welcoming our students are towards them and how well they promote what we are on about at St Anthony’s.
Congratulations to all those students who have been excelling in their various sports and making it through to the higher levels. Certificates for the top 10 in each age group at the Cross Country at the end of last term received a certificate as a memento of their performance. Well done to all!
The greatest part of our happiness depends on our dispositions, not our circumstances.
God bless
Lynne

As previously communicated: students who are close contacts and have no symptoms can continue to attend school if they follow the guidelines below:
- They must notify the school and their outside of school hours care (OOSHC) provider if they are intending to return under this provision.
- They should conduct a daily rapid antigen test (RAT) and return a negative result each morning before attending school for 5 school days.
- Secondary school students must wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising). Primary school students are recommended to wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising).
- No student identified as a close contact will be permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camps.
Testing Remember: Students cannot attend school if they are showing any symptoms of COVID-19. If symptoms occur at any time, students should not attend school and should undertake a rapid antigen test (RAT).
If a student or staff member receives a positive RAT test, they need to:
- record the positive RAT result through the Service NSW website or Service NSW app – please add details of your child’s school when prompted
- notify the school of the positive RAT or PCR test result as soon as possible
- follow NSW Health advice to isolate for 7 days.
Sports News
Zone Cross Country
The Tweed Zone Cross Country was held at the Murwillumbah Showground on Friday 6th May. The runners had to navigate a slippery and muddy course after the recent wet weather. Well done to all our St Anthony’s representatives who participated to the best of their abilities and with a high level of sportsmanship.
St Anthony’s was awarded the aggregate shield for the day which means we achieved the best results in relation to the number of students that participated on the day. This was a great team effort!
