Newsletter Term 2 Week 2 (6.5.22)
Dear Parents
It was great to see so many come to this morning’s assembly and then visit classrooms. Kindergarten certainly captured everyone’s attention with their beautiful rendition of You Are My Sunshine including both singing and signing. What a special treat for all the mothers for Mothers’ Day! We do hope all our mums enjoy their special day and the gifts their children have purchased them through the stall held yesterday. Thank you to the Parent Forum for organising all the lovely gifts for sale and to those who helped on the stall.
Year 3 and Year 6 will participate in the National Assessment Plan (NAPLAN) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week. All children throughout the country complete a Writing task, a Reading and Comprehension test, a Numeracy test and a test involving Spelling and Language Conventions. Students complete all these assessments online except for Year 3’s writing task. The tests provide a snapshot of what students can do on the day. They do not tell us all that students can do and whilst they provide schools and systems with some useful information, they are not overly emphasised in our school. Students have recently been given some tasks that are similar to past NAPLAN tests so they understand how the tests will look and how they are to answer them, but they do not require serious study. They are simply something that we do in schools every couple of years. We ask parents, therefore to not make a big deal about them. Just ensure your child gates plenty of sleep on the nights prior to the tests and that they have a good breakfast each morning.
Next Sunday, 15th May, there will be a school hosted Mass at 9.00am in the church. After Mass we invite all families to join us for a picnic lunch in the school grounds. There will be several raffle draws plus a Treasure Hunt for the kids. The $5 family ticket gets you into the raffle draws. Our school choirs will also be performing. This is a Parish event and is about building community. We encourage you to purchase a family ticket during next week and join in the fun next Sunday. It is also a commitment Mass for children preparing for First Holy Communion and it is Father Paul’s 70th birthday so we are looking forward to having a great celebration. Fingers crossed that the weather will be kind to us!
You will have noticed the building works in the school grounds. At long last the new playground is underway! It has been a long time coming but it will be wonderful to see its completion!
The carpet in the library is being pulled up today so we expect new carpet to be laid shortly. It will be good to have our library back again. It has taken a while to get to this point but we are confident that it won’t be too long before everything that was impacted in the floods will be renewed or replaced.
We have commenced interviews for prospective Kindergarten students for next year. If you have a child ready to commence “Big School” in 2023 make sure you have booked an appointment through our school office. Children must turn five by 31st July 2023 to be eligible to commence Kindergarten.
A mother comforting her child gives us a glimpse of the way God wants to comfort us. Where would we be without a mother’s love?
May God bless all our mothers with abundant love, joy, peace and happiness. Happy Mothers’ Day!
Lynne

Catholic Schools Week 2022
Our school joined this week with more than 620 Catholic schools across NSW and the ACT to celebrate the annual Catholic Schools Week (CSW).
This year’s theme “Community, Care, Compassion’’ echoes the broader mission of
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Lismore, to provide opportunities for all of our
students to experience life to the full as caring and compassionate school
communities. It is particularly pertinent at this challenging time for our diocese and the world.
We are immensely proud of the role we play alongside our parish in maintaining the
rich heritage that is Catholic Education in our community. This week provided us with
the opportunity to showcase and celebrate the quality education we offer to the
diverse range of students in our school.’
Sunday 8th May Mother’s Day
Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of

Amen.
Mother Mary cradles baby Jesus

As previously communicated: students who are close contacts and have no symptoms can continue to attend school if they follow the guidelines below:
- They must notify the school and their outside of school hours care (OOSHC) provider if they are intending to return under this provision.
- They should conduct a daily rapid antigen test (RAT) and return a negative result each morning before attending school for 5 school days.
- Secondary school students must wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising). Primary school students are recommended to wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising).
- No student identified as a close contact will be permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camps.
Testing Remember: Students cannot attend school if they are showing any symptoms of COVID-19. If symptoms occur at any time, students should not attend school and should undertake a rapid antigen test (RAT).
If a student or staff member receives a positive RAT test, they need to:
- record the positive RAT result through the Service NSW website or Service NSW app – please add details of your child’s school when prompted
- notify the school of the positive RAT or PCR test result as soon as possible
