Newsletter Term 1 Week 9 (8.4.22)
Dear Parents
It was great to see so many parents come and watch the cross-country today. We were quite nervous with the rain overnight but thanks to the team effort from staff who filled in holes, covered the sloshy parts of the track with sand and swept water from the COLA before school we pressed on. The course had to be adjusted to avoid some not so safe areas at the last minute but we are satisfied that under the circumstances we have made it work. Congratulations to all the students who put in a tremendous effort and gave it their best. And well done to the staff who assisted some of our needier students to be totally involved as well. Awesome job everyone. The team that goes onto zone level will receive their information after the holidays. The Zone cross country event will be held in Murwillumbah on Friday 6th May.
We hope everyone enjoys the holiday break. School will resume on Tuesday 26th April. During the holidays please check your child’s uniform including their shoes. It is also a great time to get haircuts. I remind you that “attention-seeking” hairstyles are discouraged. We do not allow coloured hair at St Anthony’s so if your child colours their hair during the holidays, the colour needs to be washed out or removed before returning to school. Also, girls are reminded that make-up and tinting are not allowed either.
Students were reminded today of the “Stranger Danger” rules: Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take things from strangers, and never ever go with a stranger. Please reinforce these messages with your children these holidays so they remain safe.
Holy Week commences with Palm Sunday this weekend, leading to Easter next weekend. We hope families are able to attend some of the services over this special time and remind each other of the what this liturgical season is really about. We wish all our families a joy-filled Easter.
Thanks again everyone for hanging in with us this past crazy term!
Enjoy the holidays!
In the end God loves you whether you win or lose, whether you’re fast or slow, whether you’re a high flyer or a tough trier.
God bless
Lynne

HOLY WEEK
Sunday 10th April begins our journey into Holy Week with Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord. Jesus’ royal entrance into the holy city of Jerusalem was also an entrance into the mystery of his suffering, Death, and Resurrection. As we enter this holiest of weeks with Christ, may we draw into deeper union with Him and with one another.
On Thursday 14th April we enter into the most Holy Triduum with the Church throughout the world. It is the Passover of the Lord Jesus, and we pray to know the power of Jesus’ dying and rising in our lives. John’s Gospel presents Jesus washing the feet of his disciples, this is the mandatum and deepest meaning of Eucharist: to become one with Christ, blessed, broken, and shared out of love.
Good Friday 15th April is not only about remembering the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus as a past event but about immersing ourselves in the saving mystery of Christ present among us today. Together, we hold the Death of the Lord in our hearts and draw new life from the holy Cross by which he continues to redeem our world.
Holy Saturday, 16th April, on this night, in the midst of the new fire, it is sung “The Light of Christ,” and we reply, “Thanks be to God”. In the church we hear the stories of God’s saving love throughout history. In this vigil we are renewed to tell the story of God’s victory over death by how we reflect the light we received in Baptism.
Easter Sunday, 17th April – The Risen Lord. Jesus’ resurrection confirms his divinity; the risen Christ is the principle and source of our future resurrection. He does not only rise to a “glorious” life for himself but he also shares this new life with all sons and daughters of the Father in the Holy Spirit.
Congratulations to all the children who made their First Reconciliation last Tuesday evening. A big thank you to all the parents and families who attended this evening, supporting their child/ren on this special event.
We are now excited for these children to make their First Holy Communion towards the end of Term 2.
Year 4 students who completed the Sacrament of Penance in Term 1 will now complete the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
They will attend a parent/child meeting in week 3, Wednesday 11th May at 6:00pm at School. Following this the students and their family will attend a commitment Mass of their choice over the weekend of 14th and 15th May. Students will then have the opportunity to make their First Holy Communion at a Mass of their choice over the weekend of 18th or 19th June or weekend 25th or 26th June.
(If your child is in Year 5 or 6 class, Baptised Catholic and have made their Reconciliation but have not yet made their First Holy Communion and you wish them to please email the school. with your child’s name and this request.)

Thank you to all who responded to the survey regarding the proposal received by the Pastoral Council to change the Vigil Mass time from 6.00pm to 5.00pm from the first Saturday in May (7/5) to the last Saturday in September (24/9). 80 responses were received by email or placed in the box at the back of the church. 72 were in favour of the change and 8 against. Because of a clear majority in favour of the change we will make the change for this year on a trial basis.
Year 6: Jesus Through the Seasons
As part of our Project Based Learning in Religious Education, Year 6 students created a live Walking Liturgical Calendar for the Stage 2 students to experience. The students also welcomed Mrs Pull and Mrs Falcke into their classroom.
Each display involved signs, symbols, traditions and an informative display about an event in our Catholic liturgical calendar.
Visitors were invited to pose 3 key questions to the students:
How does the Catholic Church celebrate or mark this event?
How does the event connect to your life today?
Can you explain why the items on the table are significant?
Teachers were proud of the way that Year 6 students worked collaboratively to create informative and engaging presentations.
