Newsletter Term 1 Week 8 (25.3.22)
Dear Parents
Thank you to all the parents who have availed themselves of the opportunity to meet with their child’s teachers. It has been good to allow parents back into the school and important that information is shared between parents and teachers so that we can all assist the students to do their best to achieve their goals.
Through the week I was visited by a new assistant director at the Catholic Schools Office, Mr Lee McMaster, who is heading up the School Review and Improvement Team. Lee was getting around to meet principals and talk about our school’s journey and future direction. I took him on a short tour to see some of our classrooms in action. He commented to me afterwards about how happy and friendly staff and students were, how no one was intimidated when we walked in and how learning just kept going, how students greeted us and told us what they were doing. He saw things in action and saw how our class teams operate. Nothing was rehearsed. It was all natural. I am sure he got a great sense of what we are on about at St Anthony’s and how our students are at the centre of all that we do.
On Tuesday the smell of pancakes wafted through the air. Thank you to the parents who volunteered to help on the day. Thank you to everyone who contributed all the ingredients. We did not have to purchase anything! Everyone enjoyed the yummy pancakes. I hear that Nutella spread was the most popular!! I enjoyed my jam and cream one! $550 was raised through the gold coins that were donated which was a wonderful achievement!
Today everyone has dressed up in the colours of their favourite sports teams and brought along donations to support our families who were significantly impacted in the recent floods. A wavy sun was drawn in chalk around our map of Australia in the quadrangle with the word LOVE at the top. Each class added their coins to the sun’s rays and notes were placed in a folder in the centre of the ray. Some music was played for children to sing along to, including You Can Count on Me, and What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love. It was a lovely touching morning as everyone in our school felt good about making a contribution to families who suffered through the flood ordeal. Some families have made significant donations through the school office. We are grateful for all donations as every little bit helps to show that we care.
With the ongoing inability to use the school grounds and with the predicted heavy rain over the next few days we have made the call to not hold the Cross Country on Monday. Instead we now intend to hold it on Friday 8th April, the last day of the term. We will add a bar-b-que for lunch that day and some dancing in the COLA after the event as we have also cancelled the planned disco. It will be a nice way to end the term. It is our belief that by then we will have the green light to use the grounds once again.
Tomorrow we are expecting a team of people to come in and empty our sports shed, maintenance shed and woodwork container of all the items compromised in the recent floods. They will also do a pressure clean of all the concrete areas and the adventure playground, including the carparks. We also expect that new carpet will be laid in the staff area and in the library so that we will be ready to use these spaces again next term. We have managed to cope without the hall and our grounds reasonably well but will indeed look forward to using them once again.
Year 6 will be spending the day at Mt St Patrick College next Thursday as they get a taster for high school. Year 1 are off to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary for an excursion next Friday.
The last day of term is Friday 8th April and school will resume in Term 2 on Tuesday 26th April.
Thank you for your ongoing support, care and concern.
The community we help make today is the community that will lead the world tomorrow. We are working for all the generations to come. We are working for eternity! (Ann Rennie)
God Bless

The Annunciation
The church celebrates the feast of the Annunciation on 25th March each year. This feast recalls the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive a son by the power of the Holy Spirit and he would be called Jesus. The announcement that Mary would be with child must have been startling and scary for a young village girl, yet she had the grace to accept without question the destiny to which she was twinned. Her “YES” has resounded through the ages; a “YES” that encapsulates gentleness and strength, courage and conviction, and a trust in the will of God. Can we too accept God’s will for us, not always knowing how this may play out in our lives?
This Sunday we move into the Fourth week of Lent. The Gospel Reading is ‘The Parable of the Prodigal Son’ also known as ‘The Parable of the Forgiving Father.’
We continue to keep in our prayers all who have suffered in the recent floods
Year 4 class have completed some beautiful art work in relation to their Religious Education Unit on Lent.
On Tuesday 22nd March, our students enjoyed taking part in Pancake Day.
The day was kindly run by some parent volunteers who worked busily behind the scenes. Students from Year 5 and 6 assisted in serving and money collection, and all students donated a gold coin on the day. The money will go towards supporting our families who have been significantly impacted by the recent floods.
A special thank you to Mr Monahan who arrived early to prepare a huge amount of pancake batter! We hear that his pancakes were very tasty!
Thank you to all who contributed ingredients and the donations toward this worthy cause.
And thank you to the parents who came along to cook the pancakes. It was fun having such yummy pancakes to eat!
