Newsletter Term 1 Week 7 (18.3.22)
Dear Parents
We had another hygienist at school this week taking samples from various parts of the school playground. We are awaiting the results of these tests before we are able to use the grounds once again. Meanwhile I must applaud the students on doing their best under the circumstances to play in more confined spaces. As the library is also currently out of bounds, we have turned Kindergarten room into a quiet play zone at lunch and recess. And the driveway is also being well-utilised. We are currently not too different from city schools where there are no grassed areas to play! We will all be grateful when we are once again able to play on the grassed areas, the adventure playground and in the sandpit.
Thank you to those parents who offered to run a pancake day for us as the last one didn’t happen due to the floods. We will have pancakes on Tuesday (after students have eaten their lunch). Everyone is asked to bring along a gold coin for the pancakes. If you are able to assist with ingredients please send them in on Monday.
Next Friday students may wear the colours of their favourite sports teams, or dress up as a sports person. On this day we ask for monetary donations for our school families who have been significantly impacted by the floods. Some families have to totally re-build their homes; others have lost cars, bikes, mowers etc and even their laundries as their downstairs areas were inundated. We hope to organise some care/gift packages for these families to bring a little joy into their lives later in the term. We would like to include some meal vouchers and family passes to some local establishments. So any donations next Friday will be greatly received.
The Parent Forum will meet in the school staff room on Tuesday evening at 6.00pm. All parents are welcome to attend.
Yesterday our Year 6 students were visited by Mr Scott Thompson of St Joseph’s College at Banora Point. He was accompanied by some students from last year’s Year 6, who talked to this year’s group about how they are finding things at high school this year. Elodie, Cienna and Jesse had lots to say and all seem to be really enjoying the new experience of high school. St Joseph’s also has an Open Evening on next Tuesday 22nd at 6.00pm.
Mt St Patrick College has invited all of year 6 to a fun day at their school on Thursday 31st March. The College will organise the bus and the various activities. More information will be sent home later.
Our school cross country has been set down for Monday 28th March. This is normally held on our grounds and we hope that the grounds will be ready to use again by then. We will keep you informed about this also.
Teachers are currently organising Parent/Teacher meetings. We are so glad that we can once again have parents on site. I do encourage all parents to take the opportunity to meet with their child/ren’s teachers. We are planning to have some Open Classrooms before the end of term too.
We are currently in the season of Lent, the six weeks leading to Easter. Students have been learning lots about Lent in their Religion lessons. Ask them to tell you something they have learned. Lent is a time of reflecting on how we live our lives and how we can be better. It is a prayerful time and a time to put others ahead of ourselves through our giving.
If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children. (Mahatma Ghandi)
God bless,
Lynne

St Joseph’s Feast Day - Saturday 19th March
On this day we remember Joseph, husband of Mary and father of the Holy Family.
We are invited by Pope Francis to reflect on and imitate the creative courage of St Joseph.
Joseph was courageous in taking on the responsibility of becoming the husband of Mary and the legal father of Jesus and all that those two roles entailed. As we follow Joseph in the Gospel, we see how he could turn a difficulty into a possibility with his trust in the providence of God.
This Sunday we move into the Third week of Lent.
As we do we remember all who have suffered in the recent floods
