Newsletter Term 1 Week 6 (11.3.22)
Dear Parents
It was so wonderful yesterday to welcome our students back to school after the impact of the flooding. They all seemed genuinely happy to be here and were very settled, sharing stories, engaging in art and other activities. Our school is a place where they feel safe and where they are able to thrive.
We are so sorry for all the heartache that so many of our families have had to go through. We are working on ways where we can provide more tangible support so are happy to hear ideas. It may even be a bit further down the track that we are able to give support in a way that meets individual family needs. We know there has been generous support and assistance from our community already, including a number of our students who have been out helping. This is how we show the face of Jesus to others and we are proud of the way our students have stepped up giving practical support where they can. As a community we all want to do something that will help those who are suffering so any ideas that we could manage at school level would be appreciated.
As many of you would be aware the preschool Flying Start has been unable to function on their own site, so we are allowing them to operate from our hall for the time being. That means that before and after school care will also operate once again from the hall. We are happy to support Geoff and Leanne and their team in this time of need.
St Anthony’s has fared better than some of our schools such as those in Murwillumbah and Lismore and surrounds. Water has impacted part of our staff room and part of the library and tiles have been ripped up there. There is some water damage on some window ledges. Most of what was in our sports shed and maintenance shed and the woodwork container will have to be discarded. We have been asked to not use our grassed areas, the stage and the adventure playground. We have had electricians and plumbers through as well as the hygienist. There will be someone coming out shortly to check our roofs and someone to check under our flooring. All this is being managed through our insurer. We are grateful that they have been onto the job quickly. As they told me, there was less to do here than in other schools so if they could get us sorted first they could then focus on those that needed so much more attention. We are so fortunate as two more centimetres and it would have been a different story!
A Prayer for those impacted by the recent natural disaster
God of healing and mercy, we come before you with our hearts filled with grief as we see the devastation.
We pray that your presence would be felt by those who are grieving, who are injured, who have lost their homes and livelihoods.
We pray for wisdom and safety for those who are responding to the people in need and the many challenges left in the wake of the event.
We pray for our church, that it may be a witness to your compassion and care for all who suffer.
God, you are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. For this we give you thanks and ask that you hear our prayers for all those impacted and suffering from the effects of the recent disaster. Amen.
God bless
Lynne

During this time of Lent may we come to know Jesus more deeply and to live in His truth. We pray that we become the people Jesus calls us to be, a welcoming community alive to relationships of justice and peace.
Thursday 17th March - Feast Day of Saint Patrick
Saint Patrick was a bishop who preached the love of Christ in Ireland. As God sent Saint Patrick to teach the Gospel to the people of Ireland, so may we bring peace and joy to others.
