Newsletter Term 1 Week 4 2022
Dear Parents
Yesterday we had our first School Mass for the year. Year 6 students pledged to be good role models to the younger students as they recognise that they are the leaders of our school. Our captains, vice-captains, and Year 3 & Year 4 SRC reps all received their badges towards the end of Mass. They then pledged to serve our school with pride, loyalty and example, to show respect and kindness to everybody and to go about their duties with cheerfulness. It was great that many parents of our leaders were able to be present for this occasion. We congratulate Year 6, whose last year of primary school it is, and all those who received a badge yesterday. We are sure they will live our school motto of Love and Service.
This morning Year 6 led an excellent assembly, focusing on what leadership really is. They talked about encouraging others, being engaged with what’s on offer at school, being positive about things. We heard great words that pertain to leadership. Students were very confident in their speaking and I am sure they were a great inspiration to the other students of the school. Well done Year 6!
We were also able to acknowledge those students who have been chosen to represent our school at both Zone and Diocesan level in a wide variety of sports, including hockey, soccer, AFL, rugby union, rugby league, and swimming. We certainly have some very talented sports people in our school. We wish them all the best as they progress to the next levels. We know they will be great ambassadors for our school.
Congratulations to Finn Carroll-Cinque for being age champion for the 9 year boys at the Diocesan swimming carnival last Wednesday, to Raff Carroll Cinque for being the 11 year boy champion and to Ivy Mison for being the 11 year girls champion. What an achievement for our school to have three age champions at Diocesan level! Well done to all school members of the Tweed Zone swimming team for the excellent way they conducted themselves at Wednesday’s carnival.
Lent starts next week, beginning on Ash Wednesday. Years 3 – 6 will attend Mass at 9.00am in the church on this day. There will be no school Mass on the Thursday. Children from Kindergarten – Year 2 will have a special liturgy in the church during the day which will be pitched at their level. Lent is an important part of the Church’s Liturgical calendar. It is a time of prayer and fasting and penitence and lasts until Holy Thursday just before Easter. We are called to look at our lives and to try and be better people. It is a time to focus on how we can help others less fortunate than ourselves. Caritas is the Charity arm of the Catholic Church and during Lent we are asked to make donations to Caritas.
The day before Ash Wednesday is known as Shrove Tuesday and traditionally we have pancakes on this day. The Ministry team with some supporting staff will make and sell pancakes on this day. For a gold coin donation students will receive a yummy pancake (pikelet) or two at lunch time. Any donations of ingredients will be gratefully received early next week. All money raised will go to Caritas.
Due to the inclement weather we made the right call to postpone the “Afternoon in the Park” (at Faulks Park) from this afternoon until next Friday 4th March. From about 3.30pm until about 5.00pm families are encouraged to gather in the park and meet new families to our school, and reconnect with others while students have a fun time. This is an initiative of the Parent Forum so please come along and join in the occasion. Bring something to share for afternoon tea and bring your own drinks. We will cook some sausages on the bar-b-que too. We look forward to seeing lots of people there. Let’s hope the weather is kinder!
Not this Sunday but the following Sunday, 6th March, it is a school hosted Mass at 9.00am in the church. It would be great if lots of families were able to join in this celebration. With restrictions easing it will be a wonderful opportunity for us to worship as one community.
Mr Kennedy is on long service leave for the remainder of this term. He is currently enjoying some time in Tasmania!
Our staff are expected to continue wearing masks indoors for another week. We are looking forward to being able to engage in “normal” things in the not too distant future. I understand that more RAT tests will be made available to our families but they have not arrived as yet. We will keep you informed.
Just imagine a world where God’s will is done as it is in the Kingdom of Heaven. A world of peace and happiness, no crime, no cruelty, the environment cared for properly, and everyone living joyfully, respectfully and kindly.
Thank you for all your support.
Lynne

Hundreds of individuals and groups have already made submissions to the local consultation phase of the global Synod of Bishops, but Australian Catholics only have two more weeks to share their stories.
Our parish groups have their packs and are ready to get to work!
In October last year, Pope Francis launched the international journey towards the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops.
The theme is: “Communion, Participation and Mission”,but has been dubbed by many the “Synod on Synodality” – the process of walking together as Catholics.
Catholics around the world have been invited to take part in local engagement, responding to a series of questions under the three topics in the theme.
The deadline for submissions is February 27, when theprocess of collating reports for each diocese will commence. Trudy Dantis, the director of the National Centre for Pastoral Research and national coordinator for the Synod of Bishops process, said “This phase of consultation is one that’s spanning the country and indeed the world, and everyone’s voice is important,” she said. “Some smaller dioceses have seen strong interest, and some age groups are better represented than others, but there is still time to hear from people and include their voices in diocesan reports that will
shape Australia’s national contribution to this global journey.”
Dr Dantis said the experience of the Plenary Council suggests there will be an influx of submissions in the weeks leading to February 27. “We look forward to receiving people’s stories of their faith and life, and allowing them to help shape the ongoing journey to the Synod of Bishops in 2023.”

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Families
You may be aware the NSW Premier and NSW Minister for Education have recently announced changes to the COVID settings in schools. These new settings are:
Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs)
The NSW Government is supplying an additional 8 RATs for each student to use at your discretion for the remainder of the term. Twice weekly surveillance testing is no longer required as NSW Health guidelines now move to testing only when symptomatic. We expect to receive these additional tests in the coming weeks and will distribute these to you as quickly as possible once they arrive.
Visitors and Volunteers
From Monday 28 February, visitors are permitted in schools regardless of their vaccination status. We do ask that if you or a family member are experiencing symptoms you do not visit the school at that time.
Volunteers in school are still required by the current Public Health Order to meet vaccination requirements.
Mask Wearing
From Monday 7 March, masks will no longer be mandatory for staff in primary schools. This staggered change recognises the lower vaccination rates in primary school aged students.
Students will continue to be supported to wear a mask should they choose to do so. Please supply a suitable mask should your child choose to continue wearing one.
QR Codes
Service NSW no longer requires visitors to sign into schools using the Service NSW App. Visitors are still required to sign into the school using the Who’s On Location system in the school office.
We will continue to communicate any further changes to COVID settings to you as quickly as possible. Once again, thank you for your trust and support in our school throughout this pandemic.
Please don’t hesitate to contact the school () if you have any questions.
