Newsletter Term 1 Week 2 2022
Dear Parents
This week we welcomed our Kindergarten cohort. Wow! They are such a switched on settled group already. We have been very impressed with the way they have handled their first few days of “big school”! Already they are learning the routines. Well done Kindergarten! Welcome to those families who are new to our school and their first child has commenced in Kinder.
We had a great two days at the start of the week with teachers meeting with individual students for their maths assessments. If not involved in an interview, students rotated through six activities on each day. There were Rugby League activities, tennis skills, gymnastics, indoor cricket, AFL, yoga, origami, tower building, board games and chess. We are grateful to those organisations who gave their time to us and to our staff who contributed with running activities or supervising students. Most of the maths interviews have been completed except for those students who have been away. The data gained from these assessments will assist class teachers to plan their maths lessons to assist students.
We have had a number of positive Covid cases throughout the school. Please continue to monitor your child for symptoms, test twice weekly, keep your child home if s/he is unwell. If your child tests positive, s/he must stay at home for at least seven (7) days, testing negative on Day 6. Siblings of positive cases must also stay at home for 7 days. If your child has had Covid and then a sibling tests positive, the child who has recovered from Covid may return to school and does not have to isolate again.
Year 6 spent a lovely day at the Bowling Club on Wednesday with their teachers and other staff. This was a leadership retreat day for them. They did many different group activities, learning about being a good team player and a leader. All members of Year 6 are considered to be leaders in our school and it is important for them to understand what it means to be a good role model for the younger students. There were discussions around the expectations for students who wish to take on a specific leadership role. Next week on Thursday morning from 8.45am, those students who are putting themselves forward for school captain will speak to the rest of the school outlining why they wish to be considered for this important role. Voting for captains will take place afterwards.
This Sunday at the 9.00am Mass all staff will pledge their commitment to the school and parish for the coming year. All families are invited to come along too. Children’s Liturgy will be happening – during the Mass readings and homily, children go to the Parish meeting room to hear God’s message in “child-friendly” language. A teacher always leads this session. Children’s Liturgy is held every Sunday during term time.
Between 30 and 40 students are attending the Zone swimming carnival at Murwillumbah today. Congratulations to those who qualified. We know they will be great ambassadors for St Anthony’s.
Thank you to our parents for supporting us with our uniform code and ensuring your children are in the correct uniform, including shoes. We appreciate your support.
“In the end, God loves you whether you win or lose, whether you are fast or slow, whether you are a high-flyer or a tough-trier.”
God bless
Lynne

Year 6 Leadership Day 2022
Year 6 went on a Leadership Day on Wednesday 9th February to the Kingscliff
Bowls Club, to learn about what it means to be a leader at St Anthony’s Primary School. Firstly, we formed a prayer space and we were shown several videos with inspiring messages. Later we played some leadership games and we then were put into groups to brainstorm ideas about the qualities of leaders.
Mrs Pull and Fr Paul also came along on this special day. They talked to us about leadership and the different responsibilities involved when taking on these roles. To finish the day we had a lovely Year 6 prayer service.
We would like to say a big thankyou to Mrs Falcke for organising the day for us.
