Dear Parents
We have had a busy start to the new school year but by and large things are quite settled in classrooms as we embark on a great year of learning.
Thank you to those families who dropped by to pick up RAT kits and who are testing their children twice a week as requested. Once again please let the school office know if your child tests positive and keep them home for a week. We will distribute another set of tests later next week. Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell at all. We ask that students are all tested prior to coming to school on Monday. We appreciate your support in this matter.
A reminder to parents that if you are on the school grounds you must wear a mask. You do not have to wear a mask if you are in your car picking up or dropping off your child. We have vulnerable parents in our school community so please follow the rules that are in place to keep everybody as safe as we can during this time. I do not want to lock the gates and totally keep parents off site as other schools do, so please do as we ask – wear a mask, socially distance, do not enter classrooms. These rules are laid down by the Lismore Catholic Schools Office which in turn have come from Government. Thanks for your understanding.
We look forward to welcoming our new Kindergarten cohort next Tuesday morning. There will be much excitement that day I am sure.
On Monday and Tuesday next week things will be run a little differently. All students from Years 1 – 6 will undertake a Mathematics Assessment Interview (MAI) which will be done individually with one of their teachers. There will be activities for the children and they will move with their group to six different activities throughout the day. Activities will be both indoor and outdoor. A teacher assistant will go with each group to the activities. Students may wear their sports uniforms on both these days.
Have you set up your log-in to COMPASS, our new communication platform? If you haven’t you will be missing out on information. If you have difficulty with this, please contact our office for assistance.
If you are placing canteen orders through flexi-schools for your child, please change their grade to the one they are in this year.
Attendance at school on a daily basis is a requirement for all students. As a school we have to maintain an attendance record for your child so if s/he is away it is imperative that you notify the school of the reason for your child’s absence which is then recorded. Attendance records are regularly monitored by the CSO. If there is pattern of unexplained absences there may be an investigation so it behoves all parents to be mindful of this. Also if your child is late for school or leaves early they will be marked with a “partial absence”. School hours are 8.40am – 2.55pm each day.
A warm welcome is extended to all the new families who have joined us this year. We hope your child settles in well to our school and soon makes friends. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance if you are unsure of something.
Congratulations to all those students who are chosen to represent St Anthony’s at next Friday’s Zone Swimming Carnival at Muwillumbah. We have been so lucky today to get in our school carnival considering how wet it was yesterday!
Thank you for ensuring your child is in the correct uniform and wearing the correct shoes. A reminder that hair colouring/dye is not acceptable in primary school.
Next Wednesday Year 6 will be attending a special leadership day at the Bowls Club. They will enjoy some team building activities and the opportunity to learn what is expected of them as our school leaders this year. Some of them will no doubt be inspired to apply for some specific leadership roles. They will learn about all the requirements on Wednesday. It should be a special day for them all.
The Parent Forum will meet at 6.00pm on Tuesday 15th February. All parents are welcome to attend. Masks will need to be worn as the meeting will be indoors.
We look forward to a productive year and hope that restrictions will ease to allow us to have a closer engagement with parents. We will have parent/teacher meetings about the middle of this term. Seesaw is currently the means of communication between classroom and home. Please message your child’s teacher if you have any concerns about your child. My door is always open to discuss any matter also. Remember that it is ok to contact us if you are worried about something.
It is not so much what we have in this life that matters. It’s what we do with what we have.
God bless
Lynne
