Newsletter Term 4 Week 3
CHANGING TIMES
It has been an extremely tumultuous start to this term. We have experienced many cancellations, postponements and disappointments that have been associated with this pandemic. School excursions for many grades could not go ahead and for the second year in succession the traditional Sydney/Canberra excursion was cancelled. Very disappointing for our graduating students of Year 6 but as we did last year we will try to come up with an alternative that is pleasing and acceptable to all.
On the bright side it was fantastic to see all the students back at school. Normality to school life is beginning to take shape again. The students have rekindled their friendships with their classmates and school staff have settled back into class routines with amazing ease. Thank you to all the parents for your amazing resilience in coping with homeschooling and to our extraordinary staff for being able to cope with different styles of educating.
There has been quite a significant change in the buildings around our school over the holiday break. The Infant toilets have been demolished and at present are being rebuilt with as little interruption as possible to classes and classrooms. There has been very pleasing progress in the approval being granted for a new lift. The “old one” has seen better days and has reached a point where,if you were game, get in it!! A new lift will be installed over the Christmas holidays and be fully functional by Term 1 2022.
We have seen a great deal of redevelopment to Pearl Street over the past months and we have been notified that this will continue for the next few months with the road being totally resurfaced and sealed. Something I am sure you will agree needs to be addressed asap. The bus zone at the Pearl Street entrance has become an issue with cars parking there in the allocated bus pickup times. To avoid a parking fine we ask that you please do not park there.
A reminder that the school photos have been rescheduled. There will be no photos next week due to Covid restrictions and they have been rescheduled for Thursday, December 2nd.

OCTOBER: The month of THE HOLY ROSARY
By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates the month of October to the holy Rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions. October includes the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary (October 7). The best way to celebrate the month is, of course, to pray the Rosary. Prayer is a way to help us get in touch with God and to develop a relationship with him. In prayer we not only talk with God, but God communicates with us, as we continue to pray, our relationship with God grows.
Students have the opportunity to experience walking/praying the Rosary in an indoor or outdoor quiet, reflective atmosphere within the school grounds.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Sacrament of Confirmation 2021
Please take note of this new date.
The new date for our students/already enrolled candidates to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation will be on:Monday 6th December 6:00pm at St Anthony’s Church, Kingscliff.

Something to think and pray about this week
Whether you are deeply religious or secular there is room for wonder. I love the line from Patrick Kavanagh’s poem ‘Raglan Road’ where he invites you to walk along ‘the enchanted way’. Maybe the nature of religious expression is changing – it might be moving away from its largely institutional identity into something more personal. Belief may have a greater element of choice rather than the heavy-handed impositions of the past. Enchantment invites people to acknowledge that science and religion are not opposing forces but are common hosts on the path towards enchantment.

Days at St A’s - PODCAST coming soon
Our school student leadership team is launching a podcast to share all about what it's like here at our great school. DAYS AT ST A’s is a mix of a conversation and information style podcast and episodes will be released weekly to share a wrap up of the week that’s been and look forward to the week ahead. Stay tuned for the release of EPISODE 1.
Semester Two Reports
It is that time of year again where you will be receiving your child/rens semester two written report. Due to the COVID-19 stay at home orders and blended learning, reports will look a little different to semester one. They will consist of comments on your child's progress in English and Mathematics and a General learning comment (similar to semester one reports in 2019) but there will be no A-E grades.

On Monday 18th of October multiple students from across the school competed in this year’s Science Fair. Many informative and insightful presentations were displayed, ranging from multiple volcano explosions to all sorts of food experimentation and everything in between. Father Paul, our local parish priest and many classes explored the wonderful experiments. The people who entered the fair explained how they loved the way that they could choose what their display would be about and all the students said that they will enter next year. It was a fantastic way for students to have agency over their learning. The students involved would like to thank Mrs Hawkins for engineering St Anthony’s first Science Fair.
