Newsletter Term 1 Week 8
Dear Parents
Unfortunately, the weather has played havoc with a number of sporting events in recent weeks. Winter Sport trials in Grafton will be held next Friday 26th March which means we will not hold our school cross country event on that day now. The cross country will move to Monday 29th March for Years 3 – 6 and any 8yr olds from Year 2. Then on Wednesday of that week K – 2 students will have a fun run so they do not miss out! More information will be sent home next week. The hockey gala day had to cancelled today as well and at this stage we do not have another date for it.
Congratulations to our leaders for the great initiative of “Colour Our World with Kindness” celebration yesterday. Everyone looked great in their bright colours. Year 5 led an assembly and taught a great dance to the old “Colour my World” sung many years ago by Petula Clark. Hopefully you saw vision of this on our Facebook page yesterday. Students all coloured in a hand and created a great visual of a heart surrounded by all their hands with their names on them, symbolic of everyone committing to be kind and caring at St Anthony’s. A tidy sum was raised for Caritas through the gold coin donations. Thank you for your support.
On Monday we will have a visiting group here: Back flips Against Bullying. This group will entertain children with acrobatics but at the same time will push an anti-bullying message to them. I am sure the kids will love this but we hope they remember the big message of caring for others and saying “NO” to bullying.
Congratulations to those students who belong to the environmental team at school and who organized themselves to assist with Clean Up Australia Day at Hastings Point recently. We had a delightful letter of thanks from the residents of Hastings Point community thanking them for their involvement. Well done to the leaders Connor, Sunny, Sienna and Stella and the others who joined them. We are very proud of the service you are showing to the community.
Next Tuesday evening at 6.00pm in the church a special service around forgiveness and reconciliation will take place. We have a large number of students who will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the very first time. This will be in preparation for them to receive the Eucharist next term. This is a special occasion in the lives of our young people. Tuesday is open to all in the parish who wish to avail themselves of this sacrament.
We have had a number of new families join our school in recent weeks as well as quite a few who have come to “check us out”. It’s a tribute to our families that there is a very good word in the community about what we offer at St Anthony’s. We warmly welcome you if you are new and assure you of our ongoing support.
There was a good turn-out of parents at the Forum meeting this week. Many of the class parents came along to meet one another and find out how they could support the school. We thank them for giving their time for this service. A disco date has been set for Friday 30th April from 5.00 – 7.00pm in the school COLA. Sausages will be sold on the night as well as well as slushies. It is a night for a bit of fun but we do ask that you come along and support us by supervising your children. More info will be provided early next term. The Forum will also run a Mother’s Day stall on Thursday 6th May. The next meeting of the Forum will be Tuesday 20th April at 6.00pm. All parents are welcome to attend.
Prayer of St Patrick: May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind always be at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your field, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
God bless,
Lynne

Yesterday all students came dressed in lots of bright, wonderful colours. The SRC decided to dedicate the day to the theme of “Colour Our World with Kindness.”
This linked in with St Patrick’s Day, St Joseph’s Day, Harmony Day and Anti Bullying Day.
Students brought a gold coin donation and raised $476 which will go to Caritas Australia.
Thank you to students and their families.
The Year 5 performed an amazing and inspiring assembly for our students, whereby all students joined in a song and dance. Thank you Year 5!
Thank you to our captains and SRC for their effort in putting this day together and to all students who made a wonderful effort to wear bright colours. Every child in the school traced around one of their hands and decorated it. These have now been place to form a school display which is in our court yard. We look forward to many more exciting events coming from our School Student Leadership Team this year.
Feast of St Joseph, today Friday 19th March.
Today students were involved in a prayer service, that included prayers, scripture and reflection in their classrooms that was dedicated to St Joseph
Today we remember Joseph, husband of Mary and father of the Holy Family.
Joseph was righteous;
The righteous life he embraced developed his faithfulness;
Faithfulness gave him courage;
Courage permitted his generosity;
Generosity let him grow in wisdom;
Wisdom taught Joseph kindness.
We need to colour our world with Kindness
The Annunciation of the Lord - Thursday 25th March
The Annunciation of the Lord recalls the angel Gabriel’s announcement
to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she would become the mother of Jesus,
the Son of God. The angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit
will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you;
therefore, the child to be born will be holy; he will be called The Son of God.”
(Luke 1:35)
On this morning Year 6 class will go to Mass at 9:00am
Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word
Here are a few ways to mix up your daily reading:
- Read the pictures only and create your own story together.
- After reading, create a new ending to the story
- Discuss what the story made you think about / connect with ? (Did it connect you to a past experience or another story or movie perhaps?)
- When reading a new story, make predictions about what is going to happen next. Use the clues the story is giving.
- Could the story have a different character? Or be within another setting? Talk about this with your child.
Even after children learn to read by themselves, it's still important for you to read aloud together.

At St Anthony's we want to build the most epic, awesome playground ever. Calling for all interested people to join our PPC (Playground Planning Committee). We need ideas, builders, architects, painters, anyone who wants to be remembered as part of this fantastic legacy we will leave for all future students. Please send an email with your details to julianne.barlogio@lism.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
