Swimming North Coast Para Swimming 2022
Dear Parents
We had a delightful couple of mornings this week when next year’s Kindergarten children came for Orientation. By and large they were all very happy to be here and thoroughly enjoyed their time to the point that there were tears from some at the end because they didn’t want to leave!
As the children from Flying Start visit on Friday afternoons our Kinder teachers Mr Ambrose and Miss Payne have extended an invitation to those children who will be in Kindergarten at St Anthony’s next year but who attend pre-school elsewhere to join in the fun on three Friday afternoons: 25th November and 2nd and 9th December from 1.35pm until 2.45pm. This could help with transition to Kindergarten. I thank our teachers for making this possible.
Yesterday we were visited by the Assistant Director-Education Services from the Catholic Schools Office, Ms Michele McDonald, as well as Principals and leaders from a number of other schools who have formed a learning collaborative with us. We shared our learning journey with them and then they visited our classrooms and spoke with students about their learning. The overwhelming response was one of affirmation for what we are doing at St Anthony’s. They loved visiting our school and seeing the learning in action. They commented on how articulate our students were in describing what they were learning and where they went for help in the classroom. I would like to thank all our teachers and students for the way they accommodated the visitors in their rooms yesterday and commend them for the great learning that is happening in our school.
Congratulations to those students who took part in the eSports Rocket League last Friday. I am sure it was a great experience for them. Many thanks to Miss Sleba for the work she has done which allowed our students to participate.
There are amended Covid-safe rules in place at this time. If a student is unwell, displaying any COVID-19 or cold and flu-like symptoms at any time, they CANNOT attend school and should undertake a rapid antigen test. If the rapid antigen test is positive and the student is unwell and/or experiencing any symptoms, they CANNOT attend school. If the rapid antigen test is positive and the student is not feeling unwell and not displaying or experiencing any symptoms, they CAN attend school provided the school office is informed of the positive test result. There are plenty of RAT kits available at school so please feel free to ask for them if you need them. If your child displays any COVID, cold or flu symptoms at school you will be contacted to take them home.
Today our Year 6 students represented our school at the Remembrance Day service held at the cenotaph in Kingscliff this morning. Our school captains placed a wreath during the service. Our senior class were most respectful during this service as they were last Monday when they formed a guard of honour for the funeral cortege of Mrs Fay Gleave OAM who had taught first aid at our school for many years.
Next Friday we will hold our annual Crazy Sock Day. Students may wear crazy socks with their uniforms on this day but we ask that they give a gold coin donation for Catholic Mission on this day.
The ability to reach anybody, anytime makes modern media a blessing, but without a balance it can become a curse.
Have a wonderful weekend!
God bless
Lynne

Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November each year.
On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minutes’ silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation.
In Australia and other allied countries, including New Zealand, Canada and the United States, 11 November became known as Armistice Day – a day to remember those who died in World War One. The day continues to be commemorated in allied countries.
After World War Two, the Australian Government agreed to the United Kingdom’s proposal that Armistice Day be renamed Remembrance Day to commemorate those who were killed in both World Wars. Today the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts is commemorated on Remembrance Day.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
On Tuesday, an excited group of young students from Years 3 & 4, participated in the NRL Legends 7’s Carnival at the Casuarina Rugby Fields. We entered two teams in the junior division; a Year 4 team and a Year 3 Team.
The Year 4 team was very capably coached and organised by Mr Jye Barton, himself a past student of St Anthony’s and participant in many carnivals. The team was very competitive, winning all of their 3 games and playing very enthusiastically, displaying excellent team spirit and sportsmanship.
The Year 3 team, comprised of 15 players, all very enthusiastic to play every minute of every game, which was a little difficult when only 7 players were on the field at one time! The emphasis of the day was just playing fun football with your teammates and enjoying learning more about the game. Several of our squad had very little experience in Rugby League but they acquitted themselves well and enjoyed the experience.
Many thanks to the NRL for organisng the day and the many parents who came to support our teams.
Looking forward to next year,
Yours in Footy,
Paul Monahan
Diocese of Lismore eSports Rocket League Primary Competition
Last Friday the Lismore Diocese held the eSports Rocket League online competition. Over twenty students from St Anthony’s wanted to be a part of this exciting experience so trials were held in the lead up to the competition. The top four students selected to represent St Anthony’s were Alex Todan, Lennox Scharkosi, Beau Prendergast and Jack Day.
A total of twelve teams from ten primary schools across the Diocese participated in 3v3 games. St Anthony’s competed enthusiastically in four games winning two and losing two. The sessions saw some intense gaming and the students were great ambassadors for our school. It was great to see positivity and team sportsmanship for all involved in an online environment.
Congratulations to all students who participated in this event and a huge thank you to Tracey Catling for organising such a great day!
