Newsletter Term 4 Week 2 (20.10.22)
Dear Parents
We have decided to honour our Grandparents at a special assembly on Friday 4th November commencing at 8.40am in the COLA, weather permitting! Grandparents and visitors will then be invited to visit classrooms, followed by morning tea in the hall. It’s been a couple of years since we have been able to host Grandparents Day so we look forward to welcoming them and special people who play that role in our students’ lives to join us for the morning on the 4th. Spread the word!
Kindergarten Orientation mornings will be held on Tuesday 8th November and Wednesday 9th November from 8.50am until 10.50am. All students who are enrolled in Kindergarten 2023 are invited to come along. We would like to meet with ALL their parents on the Tuesday morning in the hall after the children are settled. It is an opportunity to meet some key people at the school, as well as other parents.
Thank you to those parents who have responded to requests to provide information for their children’s absences throughout the year. Our processes related to student attendance are currently being monitored by the Catholic Schools Office, hence why you are being contacted to provide the information so that we can amend our records. Less than 90% unexplained attendance is monitored closely therefore it is imperative that parents let us know why their children are not at school. The reason the CSO is being vigilant is that currently in NSW many students are not attending school so the government is looking at this more closely. So please, assist us by responding to the messages being sent out regarding this matter.
Congratulations to Harper Gallagher and Eden Usher who were members of the Polding team at the state Primary Schools Sports Association athletics carnival in Sydney this week. What an achievement to make it this far! Well done to you both. We are very proud of you!
This week we said farewell to Mrs Kaylene Pullman who has been a valued member of our support staff at St Anthony’s for a number of years. Kaylene and husband Jim have sold their home here in Kingscliff and are headed to Ballina to be closer to their children and grandchildren. We wish them well on their new adventure. Kaylene will be missed by all of us on staff here but especially by the Kindergarten children and their teachers.
Unfortunately, due to the weather this morning we were unable to have a full school assembly. Kindergarten were able to perform for their parents in their classroom. We hope they might do their item again next Friday when we will try to have the assembly again.
Some parents from our school joined others from other schools in the area for a talk about Raising Confident Children by our resident occupational therapist, Angela Lockwood, last Tuesday evening in our school hall. This event was hosted by Parent Assembly. Angela speaks well and does a great job of assisting parents to help their children to flourish. We are very fortunate that we have Angela’s services at our school two days each week.
I appreciate it when parents take the time to contact me to discuss something that is bothering them or if they have some concerns about their child’s wellbeing. I often say that if we are unaware of something we are unable to fix it. Working together for the good of all our students is so important.
Swimming commenced this week for students in Years 3 – 6. Normally they walk to the Kingscliff pool but this week we were able to secure a bus as there was a lot of rain about and we didn’t want their school clothes being soaked. Students are expected to take part in these swimming sessions as they are part of the sports program, unless there is a very good reason why they cannot. Students are also expected to be organised and have all the things they require for the session with them on Tuesdays. Packing their bags the evening before could be helpful!
It was good to see a few families at Mass last Sunday. Our next school hosted Mass will be on Sunday 6th November, which will be the last one for the year. All are welcome to join this celebration with the parish.
May the dazzling rays of the sunshine of God’s love reach through the clouds of your life and brighten up your skies.
God bless
Lynne

Students from our school have recently undertaken, an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $90 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
Year Six students from St Anthony’s were provided the opportunity to attend the annual Canberra/Sydney excursion during Week One. The camp was run from Monday to Friday, and involved a wonderful range of activities. The teachers were extremely proud of the way our students behaved, and the curiosity and engagement that was displayed. Below, some students have shared their experiences:
Parliament House visit
As I entered the doors of Parliament House, my jaw dropped. The interior was filled with majestic marble pillars and staircases. It was very beautiful. During my experience I learnt a lot of things about all the rooms and how they were designed, such as the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Great Hall really interested me too. I could tell everything was designed with a lot of thought and effort. -Lily F
Sydney Harbour Bridge walk
During our camp we had the opportunity to walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. For me, the walk was one of the highlights of my trip. As we started walking I saw the complex structure and how it all connected to make one large beautiful bridge. The view of the harbour got better and better as we kept on walking. I saw the aqua oceans and lots of beautiful greenery. All the nature blew me away. In the distance we took in the iconic Sydney Opera House. It was definitely one of the best views I have ever seen. -Lily F
War Memorial visit
The War Memorial was a very old and beautiful building that holds stories and artefacts of many deceased and still living people who have served our country. The War Memorial held many planes from World War One and onward. Curators also managed to attain some Japanese planes that had fought with and against us. All of the stories that the tour guides explained were about very brave soldiers who fought for our country and gave their lives for us so we could be free. I think one of the main places that really amazed and caught year 6’s attention was the burial place of the Unknown Soldier, and the two walls with the names of all the people who fought and died in war. This was called the Roll of Honour and was decorated with poppies by soldiers’ relatives. -Oliver D
Questacon
Questacon, Canberra: the excitement on everyone's faces. Spending a fun day with your friends. Engaging with science, technology and innovation. Experimenting with our curiosity! I’m sure everyone else enjoyed going to Questacon as much as I did! Experiencing an earthquake, witnessing a man-made strike of lightning, playing air hockey with a robot!? The energy of Questacon and its many displays was amazing. Our whole class had the best day visiting this national building, from interacting with robots to dropping down a huge, near vertical slide! Questacon was definitely the highlight of my camp experience! -Clancy N
Taronga Zoo
Taronga Zoo in Sydney was by far my favourite zoo to visit. The animals all put a smile on my face, and the seal show was magnificent with all the talented tricks that the seals have been taught to perform. When the chimpanzees swung from rope to rope it definitely made me laugh because of their resilience, even when they fell down. Everywhere I looked there were always beautiful animals to look at and admire, complemented by the amazing backdrop of Sydney Harbour. -Connor D
Attending students and staff would like to formally thank Mr Kennedy for the tremendous amount of organisation that went into this wonderful camp.
