FATHER’S DAY CELEBRATION
What a wonderful morning for our celebration of Father’s Day.
First of all I would like to thank our wonderful staff who assisted in the cooking, preparing and serving of morning breakfast to our fathers and to many others from our school community. A special thank you to Mr Monahan and Mr Rochester for their early start at 6.30 am getting everything started and organized. What a wonderful team we have here at St Anthony’s. It is very much appreciated and once again I thank you.
Secondly I would like to say thank you to our school community for supporting our Father’s Day breakfast. It has been a few years since we have celebrated with a bacon and egg breakfast and what a turnout!

Year 3 Religion/Confirmation Retreat Day
On Wednesday we celebrated a wonderful retreat day learning and reflecting on scripture, signs and symbols connected to the Pentecost Story, gifts of the Holy Spirit, and The Sacrament of Confirmation. We had wonderful Youth Ministry Students from St Joseph’s College join us, working with our students for the day and sharing their stories.
Thank you for your fantastic help Ayla, Ruby, Leilani, Ella, Summer, Eloise and Hannah.
God, bless all the fathers in the world, Father, we ask that You guide them to be good role models and loving dads to their children. We also ask that You help them to be a father like you are. Give them grace and patience as they continue to guide and look after their family.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Next Thursday we celebrate the birthday of Mary.
Let us be glad for the mother of Jesus.
God, our Saviour,
Thank you for giving us Mary, who agreed to be the mother of your Son.
Amen
Last weekend with the St Anthony’s Parish and Last Tuesday at the Sts Mary and Ambrose morning Parish Mass Father Paul celebrated his 40th Priestly Ordination Anniversary.
He was ordained on this exact date 40 years ago at Sacred Heart Church, Murwillumbah. We congratulate Father Paul, and we thank him for all his guidance, support and spiritual direction.
Tournament of Minds
Last Sunday, two teams of seven students participated in the regional Tournament of Minds. The students worked collaboratively over the six weeks leading up to the event to solve demanding, open-ended challenges.
Tournament of Minds is an opportunity for students with a passion for learning and problem solving to demonstrate their skills and talents in an exciting, vibrant and public way.
The long term challenge for the Arts team involved research before developing a creative interpretation in response to the Challenge. The challenge provided opportunities for artistic expression in the form of dance, song, drama and all forms of the Visual Arts.
For the STEM team, the combination of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics principles provided an integrated approach for students to deepen their conceptual understanding and use their creative and critical thinking skills to solve a challenge within an authentic context.
We congratulate both teams on their performances and achievements. They certainly demonstrated the spirit of Tournament with their enthusiasm, teamwork and creativity.
The Arts team achieved an Honours award and the Stem team achieved First place. The Stem team are now off to the State finals next Sunday in Sydney. We know they will try their best and we wish them well for this next stage of challenges!
A big thank you also to the teachers who facilitated and supported the teams throughout the process.
Hockey Tweed will be running a 5 a-side mixed competition on a Wednesday afternoon for students in Years 3-6. Teams play on half a turf field with rebound boards. Experience is not necessary and if there is enough interest we can look at entering some St Anthony’s teams. Players will need a stick, shin pads and a mouthguard to play.
It is hoped the students can participate in hockey lessons during PE so they are familiar with the basic skills before the competition starts. Years 5 and 6 will begin hockey in their PE lessons next week in preparation for the Hockey Gala Day on Friday 16th September.
If your child is interested in playing please email the school at: sapkings@lism.catholic.edu.au
DONATIONS OF HOCKEY STICKS (ESPECIALLY SMALLER SIZES) WOULD BE GREATLY WELCOMED IF YOU HAVE OLD ONES AROUND THE HOUSE THAT ARE NO LONGER BEING USED!
