Dear Parents
Mrs Pull is currently enjoying her long service leave in Germany. A trip that her husband and herself have planned for many years and finally after interruptions of Covid they have embarked on a European adventure that they wholeheartedly deserve. We wish them all the very best for the rest of Term 3.
What a big weekend coming up. Fr Paul McDonald's celebration of 40 years since he was ordained a Priest at Murwillumbah. We have a school Mass on this Sunday at 9.00am followed by a BBQ at the Kingscliff Surf Club in honour of Fr Paul's milestone. We would love to see as many St Anthony’s students at the Mass and also at the celebration held at the Surf Club.
Year 5 and 6 attended a Gala Day of sport at Arkinstall Park on Tuesday this week. It was a very fun filled day with our students combining with other Catholic Schools from the northern region of our Dioceses. Various sports were played, Soccer, Aussie Rules, Netball and Tennis. A great day had by all.
Book Week started this Monday with all students placed into groups for reading of the Book Week Collection. It was an excellent start to the week with all students spread out across the school enjoying collaborative learning. Each class has participated in various activities throughout the week from Book Reviews to book studies and dressing up as book characters and performing at assembly.
A BIG thank you to Jeff Van De Graaf and Luke McKenzie who volunterily clean up the Parish car park and surrounds. It was becoming very untidy and in desperate need of attention so on behalf of the St Anthony’s community we thank you. Well done.
Please remember that the Survey that was issued through COMPASS needs to be completed by the 30th August. We need as many parents as possible to complete it. It is essential for our school to get your feedback on issues pertaining to our school.
It has been a very busy week with many activities from sports to book week to assembly items. I hope the large crowd at our assembly enjoyed the students performances in showcasing their learning skills.

This week we have been celebrating Book Week with the theme of ‘Eyes Wide Open’. Each class has been exploring literature in a variety of ways to engage the students and spark their enthusiasm for reading!
We have had a school wide book reading morning, lots of art, book reviews, reflections, parent readings and an author visit in Stage 3! What a magical week of immersing ourselves in the love of reading and literature! We love Book Week!

Stage 3 Tweed Sports Gala Day
On Tuesday 23rd August Years 5 and 6 travelled to Arkinstall Park to participate in the Tweed Zone Catholic Primary Schools Sports Gala Day.
The gala day consisted of a mixed competitive soccer and netball competition as well as non-competitive soccer, netball, AFL and tennis.
Congratulations to our St Anthony’s mixed soccer team who played some fantastic round games earning a place in the final against St Ambrose.
It was a very close game with both teams not giving up. Unfortunately our team went down 2-1 in the end. Well done to the team for their effort as well as their teamwork. Thank you to Mr Barton who coached the team.
2022 St Anthony’s Soccer Team: Serge Popov, Max Pollard, Paddy Nelson, Lennox Scharkosi, Tristan York, Kade O’Shea, Angus Williams, Chayse Nash, Hugh Flaherty, Billy Handisides, Eva Richards, Josie Wortman, Alex Todan, Nixon Bartlett-Kelly,
Well done to our mixed St Anthony’s competitive netball team who only lost 1 game for the whole day, played to the best of their abilities and displayed excellent sportsmanship. They finished 2nd overall.
It has been wonderful to see both the boys and girls become very involved and participating in this sport. Huge thanks to Miss Field who has given up her time to train and coach the students.
Thanks also to Mrs Barlogio who once again has given up her time to help train and select the team. She was also the convenor of the competitive netball competition on the Gala Day.
2022 St Anthony’s Gala Day Netball Team: Lily Seaton, Beau Prendergast, Thalia Wallace, Connor Dunnachie, Levi Gallagher, Clancy Nankivell, Stella Lindsay, Harper Richards, Lily Forde
Finally what a fun day all our other Year 5 and 6 students had rotating around the 4 sports, soccer, netball, AFL and tennis. From all reports participation from our school students was high and the students are to be congratulated on their enthusiasm and behaviour. Thankyou to all the teachers that attended the Gala Day on Tuesday to supervise and help run the sports. Without you these events cannot go ahead.
Summer 5 a-side Hockey
It is that time of year again when Winter Sports are ending and your child/children may be starting to think about a Summer sport.
Hockey Tweed will be running a 5 a-side mixed competition on a Wednesday afternoon for students in Years 3-6. Teams play on half a turf field with rebound boards. Experience is not necessary and if there is enough interest we can look at entering some St Anthony’s teams. Players will need a stick, shin pads and a mouthguard to play.
It is hoped the students can participate in hockey lessons during PE so they are familiar with the basic skills before the competition starts. Years 5 and 6 will begin hockey in their PE lessons next week in preparation for the Hockey Gala Day on Friday 16th September.
If your child is interested in playing please email the school at: sapkings@lism.catholic.edu.au
DONATIONS OF HOCKEY STICKS (ESPECIALLY SMALLER SIZES) WOULD BE GREATLY WELCOMED IF YOU HAVE OLD ONES AROUND THE HOUSE THAT ARE NO LONGER BEING USED!

MSPC Murwillumbah is hosting a parent workshop with Nathan Hulls on How to Motivate Teens.
All parents/caregivers are warmly invited to attend. Whilst the focus is on teens, parents with upper primary school aged children heading into their teenage years may also wish to attend.
Dear Parent/Caregiver
The ‘Seasons for Growth’ program offers children who have experienced grief, loss or change in their lives the opportunity to talk to other children, of similar age, in a small group about their similar experiences.
‘Seasons’ was initially launched over 20 years ago and there is evidence indicating the program makes a very positive contribution to the social and emotional wellbeing of thousands of children and young people in Australia and overseas.
With the framework ‘Seasons’ provides, children are encouraged to focus on what they can do to make these changes or losses easier to live with. Each group operates with a trained adult companion, during school hours, on a weekly basis for about ten weeks.
St Anthony’s is very pleased to be able to offer this program again in our school and will commence in week 7. If you feel your child would benefit from ‘Seasons’ please complete the attached return slip.
There are limited spaces for each year group. If you wish your child to particpate in the program please send in the persmission slip as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely
Lynne Pull
Principal
