Message from the Principal - Lynne Pull
Dear Parents
What a colourful morning with our hat parade for Book Week! It was great to see everyone get into the spirit of the occasion. Some very clever designs were evident. The book reading on rugs throughout the playground looked so good. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to read to a group today. Thank you also to everyone who purchased a book from the bookfair that has been held in the library this week. We get a percentage of the sales which we use to purchase more books for the library. Many thanks to Mrs Plunkett for running the fair and decorating the library so beautifully. We will have a visiting author/illustrator visiting our school next Friday 30th August.
The Colour Fun Run will be held on the last Monday of this term, 23rd September. This is our major fundraiser for the year and we encourage everyone to get involved by signing up and then getting some donations from friends and family. The money will be used to upgrade the speaker system. Kindergarten have about 64% of their class enrolled already so they all get a free ice-block at Recess today. The top fundraisers by next Friday will help slime a couple of teachers which the children love to do – not so sure about the teachers but so many are such good sports!
Congratulations to those students who participated at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival held in Coffs Harbour on Tuesday. A number of them have now qualified to represent the diocese at the Polding Carnival. We will recognise them at Monday morning’s assembly before school.
Well done also to the students who participated in the AFL also held on Tuesday, at Southport Sharks. I have had great reports about the effort displayed in having to play so many games, often back-to-back without a real break, the sportsmanship and the exemplary behaviour. This is always what we want to hear – everybody gives their best and shows respect etc to all. We cannot always win but we learn something each time we have a go. The competition was at a significantly higher standard than at their last round.
Next Tuesday, 27th August, close to 100 of our students will participate in the Netball Gala Day accompanied by many of our teachers and parents. Hopefully the weather will be kind and everyone will enjoy the occasion.
Next Friday we will celebrate all the dads and father figures in our lives with breakfast commencing our at 7.30am. Delicious bacon and egg rolls will be served – FREE for the dads and $2 for everyone else. This will be followed by our assembly with prayer dedicated to our dads. We hope you can join us for the morning.
The Fathers Day stall will be held in the hall on Thursday morning. Lots of lovely items for children to purchase a special gift for dad.
The Catholic Schools Office is currently advertising for a new principal for St Anthony’s from next year. There will be community consultation to be held in the school library on Monday evening, 2nd September at 5.00pm. There is also an opportunity to contribute via a link – please see the information elsewhere in the newsletter.
Don’t ever be jealous of others’ success. If you can’t win a race, help the person in front of you break the record. Your candle doesn’t lose its light by lighting another. Let us be supporting and uplifting of each other.
Have a great weekend everyone!
God bless
Lynne

Something to think and pray about
God with Us
We should keep an eye and an ear open in the liturgy and in our reading of the Bible to pick up the many references to God being ‘with’ us and his other chosen servants, so that we can appreciate their full theological significance. This should encourage us to appreciate the depth and all the implications of the apparently simple universal greeting with which we Christians are so familiar that it glides off our minds regularly without our appreciating it: “The Lord be with you.’ Hearing this from the priest at Mass should stop us regularly in our tracks: it is not just a blessing, it is always also a challenge. As we see throughout the Bible, it implies a previous particular commission that we have personally received from God. It should remind us that God promises to be always ‘with us’, as the risen Jesus promised his disciples (Matthew 28:20), regardless of – even because of – our inadequacies, so that God can bring about through us what he is asking of us at this moment in our lives. That’s the point.
Excerpted from Sacred Space: The Companion by The Irish Jesuits (p.68)
We Remember At This Time…
During August, we celebrate a number of Marian Feast Days, including the Solemnity of the Assumption on the 15th and Our Lady of Knock on the 17th. Our Lady of Knock is Ireland’s National Marian Shrine and, more recently, was designated an International Eucharistic and Marian Shrine. Perhaps we could remember the people of Ireland at this time, that they may come to know the love of Jesus once more, who is brought to birth in us through the incredible gift of the Eucharist, and through Mary, the first tabernacle of the Lord – His Blessed Mother and ours. Amen.

Important Notice on Student Dismissal Procedures
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We thank you for your continuous support in fostering a positive learning environment for our students.
We would like to remind families that students are expected to be in school from 8.40am until 2.55pm EACH day. This is the law. We are consistently seeing many students arrive later and later of a morning, which means they are missing out on essential learning which begins at the start of the day. On the other hand many students seem to be leaving earlier of an afternoon which means that they may be missing out on completing their tasks or not getting essential messages at the end of the day. Students arriving late and leaving early cause disruption to the class and to teachers, as well as office staff. As part of our efforts to minimise disruptions and ensure the safety and smooth operation of our school, we are implementing new guidelines for student dismissal and home travel arrangements.
Key Changes to Note:
Change in Travel Arrangements:
Effective immediately, we kindly request that parents and guardians refrain from calling the school to change students' home travel arrangements after 2:30pm, except in the case of an absolute emergency. We have noticed a significant increase in calls between 2:30 pm and the bell at 2:55pm. This volume of calls disrupts classroom activities and places additional strain on our office staff. It is not always easy to get messages through on time.
Student Pick-Up Timing:
To alleviate congestion and parking issues, students will not be permitted to leave between 2:30pm and the final bell at 2:55pm. If you need to collect your child early, please ensure that it is by 2:30pm at the latest. Alternatively, we encourage parents to wait to use the pick up zone until 3:10pm to avoid the rush.
Pick-Up Line Procedure:
The pick-up line is designated as a “stop and drop” zone. Parents who need to exit their vehicles to assist their children with seatbelts or other needs should park in the allocated parking areas, either on the netball court or at the supermarket, and walk in to meet their children. Or wait until after 3.10pm when there is less congestion.
Please do not leave your car parked in the pick-up zone in the mornings or afternoons at pick-up and drop-off times. This causes inconvenience to others. Park on the netball court and walk in. This has always been the expectation.
We understand that these changes may require adjustments to your usual routines, but we believe they will contribute significantly to a more orderly process at the end of the day in particular. Your cooperation in adhering to these new procedures is greatly appreciated and will ensure that classes can continue undisturbed until the end of the day and that office staff are not overwhelmed with last-minute changes.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Thank you for your understanding and support in this matter.

AFL Regional Finals
Well done to our St Anthony’s Boys and Girls AFL teams who travelled to Southport on Tuesday 20th August to compete in the AFLQ StreetSmarts Regional Finals.
The Boys team played well in their round games coming away with some exciting wins (one going into extra time) to secure a place in the semi-finals. The opposition in the semi-final was tough and the boys unfortunately were knocked out of the tournament in this game. They are to be congratulated for their 100% effort in every game and they certainly were competitive throughout the day.
The girls played competitively all day with sportsmanship and true St Anthony’s spirit, never giving up and having fun at the same time. They didn’t progress to the semi-finals but did themselves and the school proud in each game.
Congratulations to the following students who represented the school with outstanding effort and sportsmanship:
Boys: Harper Gallagher, Dash Campbell, Luke Thierjung, Joey Loughland, Derayne Kelly, Flynn Horton, Sonny Buxton, Jax Nash, Kalani O’Connor, Jaxson McGrath, Jesse Green, Nixon Moase, Ky O’Grady, Trey Maynard, Archie Plunkett, Ziggy Morgan, Orlando Caine, Logan Woodward, Hudson Partridge and Flynn Pierce.

Thank You to Mr Michael Caine and Mr Ben Rogers who took time out to travel to Southport and help coach the boys and girls teams. Your knowledge and support has been greatly appreciated. Thank You to Mrs Amanda Rogers who volunteered as a Goal Umpire, your help is much appreciated.
Art and Environment Team
Our students have been buzzing with creativity as they transform our school’s bee garden into a vibrant bird sanctuary. During lunchtime sessions, students traced a variety of mostly local Australian birds onto plywood. The shapes were then cut out during woodwork sessions and painted with stunning details. These colourful creations have now been turned into charming garden stakes, adding a touch of artistic flair and local wildlife wonder to our bee garden. Well done to our talented students for their dedication and artistry, bringing both beauty and ecological awareness to our school environment!"

Flying Start
Book Week is here, and we have enjoyed sharing our love of books. We have read, listened to, and watched, and made our own books and photo books, too. We have learned about the difference in who writes the books and who illustrates them. We were lucky enough to take a trip to the library where the book fair was being held. We browsed through all the wonderful books, and so many of our preschoolers recognised the ones they love or have at home. The week will culminate in us participating in the parade on Friday with the school, and we can’t wait to show off the hats that we have been busy making.
This week, we’re thrilled to announce the arrival of new fixed equipment in our playground. We're all excited about this new addition’s possibilities, and we can’t wait to see the children swing on the monkey bars, climb the ropes, and navigate the upright games.
A great week we had at Preschool.

RCIA 2024
A JOURNEY OF FAITH
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Since Jesus invited His first followers to “Come, follow me”, the image of journey has been used to describe Christian discipleship.
Perhaps you or someone you know are interested in being baptised, or were baptised in another Christian faith but are interested in becoming Catholic.
The RCIA provides a setting where the Catholic faith can be explored and the journey of faith can be celebrated within the local Church community.
An RCIA Enquiry Night will be held on Tuesday, 20th August, 6.30pm, in the Parish Meeting Room at St Anthony’s Church (located behind the Presbytery, northern side of the church). You are most welcome to come along to learn about the process, there is no obligation to commit. If you would like further information contact Catherine Holliday in the Parish Office on 6674 1284 or email pa@stanthonysparishkingscliff.org
St Anthony's Parish - Care Group
Many parents may have noticed from the Parish Bulletin, that the Parish has a Care Group which, among other things seeks to provide meals to any parishoners in need.
This could include times of family sickness, new mums struggling to provide for the family in the early days of returning home, and many other circumstances of genuine need.
Please be aware that the Care Group is very willing to help out if any families find themselves in need of this service.
