Message from Assistant Principal Learning & Teaching

    Dear Parents

Biggest Influences on Student Achievement: What really makes a difference?

How does St Anthony’s try to achieve collective teacher efficacy:

At St Anthony’s, we believe collective teacher efficacy is a powerful force that can transform our school and improve student outcomes. It requires ongoing effort, commitment, and a shared belief in the ability of teachers to make a positive difference in the lives of their students. It also requires the support and trust of our families in our teachers and open, ongoing communication. By fostering a culture of collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and shared goals, we are working toward achieving collective teacher efficacy.

    Confirmation

A reminder for those families who have a child receiving Confirmation and missed last week’s Confirmation Family Workshops that there will be a make-up session on Monday, September 11 at 4pm in the Staff Room. The family workshops are a core aspect for preparation and a Parish requirement for formation and to communicate key information about the Sacrament. Please contact Gemma Ballantine via the Office or email to confirm your attendance.

Children preparing to receive Confirmation are expected to attend one Confirmation Commitment Mass this weekend. Families can attend any of the Masses in the St Anthony’s Parish (in Kingscliff or Pottsville). Mass times can be found further down in this Newsletter and on the website. The Sunday 9am Mass is a St Anthony’s Parish School Mass, so there will hopefully be many families there and Morning Tea afterwards.

Confirmation Retreat for Year 3 and Confirmation Candidates in Years 3-6

All Year 3 students have been learning about the Sacrament of Confirmation during their Religion lessons this Term. All of Year 3 and the students receiving Confirmation in Years 4-6 are invited to attend the Confirmation Retreat day this Wednesday, September 13. We are blessed to have our CSYMA (Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Association) students from St Joseph’s, Banora Point, attending this day to help and support our students. All students attending the retreat are allowed to wear Confirmation fire colours (red, orange, yellow) free dress on this special day. The kids will celebrate with Pizza for lunch and a Zooper Dooper, but please pack some Recess and fruit for your child. Please also let us know if your child has any dietary requirements so we can cater accordingly.

A reminder that the Sacrament of Confirmation will be Wednesday, October 11 at 6pm with our Bishop Greg Homeming.

    R U OK Day- Thursday September 14

R U OK? Day 2023 is Thursday 14  September and is our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to  ask, ‘are you OK?’ and start a meaningful conversation whenever they spot the signs that someone they care about might be struggling. This Thursday St Anthony’s students are invited to wear bright, fluro colours to raise awareness about R U OK? Day. AT school we will be talking about the need to look out for each other, check in on our friends and have positive, caring conversations with each other. For more information about R U OK Day visit here.

SOMETHING TO THINK AND PRAY ABOUT THIS WEEK

    Discernment
Discernment is trying to make a good decision based on the situation in which one finds oneself. The first level of decision-making revolves around the pros and cons, the reasons for and against a decision. Situations are complex and often fluid, with many factors in play. There is an element of reflection, of creating space and trying to review the decision from different points of view. The process does take some time, though, and can’t be rushed.  Excerpted from Brothers in Arms  by Brendan McManus SJ (p.8)

St Anthony's Parish - Care Group

Many parents may have noticed from the Parish Bulletin, that the Parish has a Care Group which, among other things seeks to provide meals to any parishoners in need.

This could include times of family sickness, new mums struggling to provide for the family in the early days of returning home, and many other circumstances of genuine need.

Please be aware that the Care Group is very willing to help out if any families find themselves in need of this service.
