A Week of Excitement and Growth at Our School!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope this newsletter finds you well. We're excited to share some highlights from the past week at our school, as well as some upcoming events that you and your children can look forward to.
Rugby League Gala Day Success:
This Tuesday, our students participated in the Rugby League Gala Day, and it was a day filled with teamwork and sportsmanship. We're thrilled to announce that Mr. Tierney's team remained undefeated throughout the day! We'd like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Theirjung family for designing our new jerseys, adding to the sense of unity and pride on the field.
Netball NSW Gala Day and Literary Inspiration:
On Wednesday, our students participated in the Netball NSW gala day, where 91 students from grades 3-6 came together for a day of friendly competition and fun. Additionally, 40 students had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Byron Writers Festival, where they engaged with authors' writing journeys, inspirations, and creative ways to gather ideas. The students have been eagerly sharing their newfound knowledge and insights with their classmates, enriching our learning environment.
Exciting Fundraiser Launch - The Colour Fun Run:
Today marked the launch of our major fundraiser for the year – the Colour Fun Run! This event promises not only a day of vibrant fun but also a chance for our students to contribute meaningfully to our school community. The funds raised will go towards the creation of a fully functional mud kitchen and a culturally inclusive yarning circle and a sacred space.
Creating a Mud Kitchen for Imaginative Play:
Our vision is to establish an outdoor play area that fosters imaginative and sensory play, using natural materials such as mud, water, sticks, leaves, and stones. This mud kitchen will provide a unique space for children to explore, create, and learn through hands-on experiences.
Embracing Culture with a Yarning Circle:
In line with our commitment to inclusivity, we aim to create a yarning circle – a culturally friendly safe space for students to gather and communicate. Additionally, we plan to develop a sacred area designed for reflection, prayer, and meditation. This space will feature seating, a walkable rosary path, and a serene cross, offering a tranquil environment for spiritual contemplation.
Join the Fun - "Slime a Teacher" and VIP Tent!
Our students are eagerly anticipating the chance to "slime" a teacher, adding an extra layer of excitement to our fundraising efforts. Furthermore, one lucky class will have the opportunity to become VIPs for the day, enjoying the action from their exclusive tent complete with drinks and snacks.
Book Week Boogie Parade 21st August
Book Week promises to be another exciting week of learning through literature. We will commence the week with a “Book Boogie Parade”. All students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character. We have discussed with students how they can use things they own and recycle items to help them add life to their character and keep it simple - there is no need to purchase anything. Parents are most welcome to come and watch the students as they "boogie" in Genre groups around the school grounds.
We appreciate your continued support in making these initiatives a reality. Your involvement in our school community is invaluable, and together, we can create enriching experiences for our students.
Thank you for your time and commitment.
Warm regards,
Assistant Principal- Learning & Teaching

SOMETHING TO THINK AND PRAY ABOUT THIS WEEK

There is No Need to Be Afraid
‘Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.’ – Luke 12:32
Jesus assures us that there is no need to be afraid of the future. Life is a pilgrimage that keeps moving. The kingdom of God on earth could be described as a society of justice and peace. We should try to live a life in love and service in order to build up this kingdom. When we do so, we obtain real wealth, not just for ourselves, but for others. This approach means that we are ready to meet Jesus, our shepherd, at any time.

School Fun Run

We’re holding the School Fun Run as a major fundraising event this year! The event will be held on September 19. We are really hoping to raise $30,000 which will pay for a fully functional mud kitchen to benefit student development and growth. It will be an outdoor play area where children can engage in imaginative and sensory play using natural materials like mud, water, sticks, leaves, and stones. Additionally we want a yarning circle for a culturally friendly safe space for students to talk and a sacred space designed for reflection, prayer, and meditation. Creating it with seating, a walkable rosary path, and a large cross providing a tranquil environment for spiritual contemplation.
Keep your eyes peeled for the sponsorship forms which will be sent home with your child. Once you have the form, you should sign up for a Student Profile Page at schoolfunrun.com.au. You’ll be able to access online fundraising and can win a $20,000 Ultimate Family Package!
Students who raise $10 or more will receive a reward, and the more money you raise the better the reward, and the more you help the school!
We’re looking for all students to participate and we’re organising a great day for our community, so we’d love everyone to come down to support the kids.
If you have any questions about the Fun Run please contact the School Fun Run Office on 1800 FUN RUN.
Thanks for supporting the school and we hope to see you at the event!

Tweed All Schools Rugby League Carnival

On Tuesday this week, four St Anthony’s teams travelled to Dave Burns Fields at South Tweed for the annual All Schools carnival. After several weeks preparation, we played our best and thoroughly enjoyed the chance to compete with Primary schools throughout the Tweed District.
We’d like to take this opportunity to pass on a heartfelt thanks to the THIERJUNG FAMILY who have designed customized shorts, socks and jerseys which can be used for all codes of football. The children looked amazing and we will get many years of use from this extremely generous donation.

National Science Week

We will be holding a science fair to celebrate National Science Week in week 5. The Science fair will be held on Thursday 17th August. This is an optional activity for students. If students wish to participate, they may work in groups or individually and prepare a display, experiment, presentation or poster showing a scientific idea. The theme for this year is innovation powering future industries. Projects do not have to fit the theme, however judges will look favourably on those projects that do fit the theme. Students must nominate what they are doing and return their nomination form to Mrs Hawkins by 4th August. All students who have elected to participate should have brought home a note. If you think your child may like to participate and they did not collect a note, please ask them to contact Mrs Hawkins in year 1. The note contains all the important information relating to the Science Fair.
Social Media: Are They Old Enough?
Social Media: Are They Old Enough?
While the internet offers incredible opportunities for children to access information and connect with others, it's important for parents to teach them how to navigate online environments safely. Without proper supervision and understanding of concepts like privacy, children may face negative experiences that can impact their well-being.
Wait Till 13
One common question that arises is when your child should have a social media account.
Most social media platforms, including Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and Facebook, require users to be at least 13 years old to register. Following these guidelines, we recommend that no primary-aged child should have their own social media account. As a school community, we kindly request that you protect your child by allowing them to access social media only under your account and supervision.
After they are 13, take into account your child’s:
- Maturity
- Resilience
- Understanding of the impacts of social media.
Saying No
Safeguarding your child's confidence and self-worth during their primary school years is crucial, and social media can have negative consequences on your child’s developing identity. We encourage you not to let the online environment distort this important phase of their development. Stay strong and resist the pressure to introduce your child to social media when they are too young.
Together, let's empower our children to explore the digital world safely while preserving their well-being and fostering a positive sense of self.

St Anthony's Parish - Care Group
Many parents may have noticed from the Parish Bulletin, that the Parish has a Care Group which, among other things seeks to provide meals to any parishoners in need.
This could include times of family sickness, new mums struggling to provide for the family in the early days of returning home, and many other circumstances of genuine need.
Please be aware that the Care Group is very willing to help out if any families find themselves in need of this service.
