From the Principal
Dear Parents
What a wonderful week of celebrations to round off the term.
On Monday our primary choirs performed at the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts with the Stage 3 choir winning and the Stage 2 choir achieving second place. Our small vocal group also won their section. All groups were given very positive feedback from the adjudicator who commented on the discipline of the groups and how focused and engaged they were.
On Tuesday our band had their first performance away from school. Even though it was a non-competitive section the group was given a Bronze award and great encouragement to continue developing. The adjudicator commented that it was a good ensemble with good intonation. For a beginning band this was great news. We hope to expand the band into the future.
On Wednesday it was the turn for Years 1 & 2 to perform on stage with their rhythm sticks and choirs. Each class performed in the “actions” sections and the “no actions” ones. It is obvious that all students thoroughly enjoyed the experience of performing in front of a big audience.
Well done to Mr Spurlock, Miss Lewis and the teachers for supporting the students and preparing them all for their performances. It is great to have so many in our school involved and enjoying these opportunities.
On Wednesday evening we were treated to some excellent public speaking by students from all grades at the Orators Evening. Congratulations to all! Parents couldn’t help but be impressed with the standard of work. The adjudicators had a hard time deciding on who would move through to the Tweed Catholic Schools Public Speaking Competition which will be held on Thursday 10th August at Tweed South Sports Club. Those students selected will receive further information early next term.
Reports for Semester 1 have been sent out today on Compass. Next term parents will be invited to a 3-way Learning Conversation with their child and a teacher around the child’s achievements, goals and areas to work on. This is planned for Weeks 3 & 4. This will take the place of the traditional Parent/Teacher interview, however parents are more than welcome to arrange an appointment with their child’s teachers to discuss any areas of concern at another time.
Yesterday, Wednesday, students in Years 4 & 6 worked with Mr Peter Mitchell (Mitch) from Hobart who is the founder and creator of the MJR (Making Jesus Real) approach to discipleship. From all accounts students thoroughly enjoyed this reflective time about finding the Spirit of Jesus within themselves and others. Students have been challenged to regularly focus in on this work for the remainder of the year. This approach lends itself to helping our students become the best people they can be.
Once again thank you for sharing the education journey of your children with us this past semester. Enjoy the holidays with them. We look forward to working with you again next term. Students return on Tuesday 18th July.
May you recognise in your life the presence, power and light of your soul;
May you have respect for your individuality and difference;
May you learn to see yourself with the same delight, pride and expectation with which God sees you in every moment
God bless, Lynne

Many parents may have noticed from the Parish Bulletin, that the Parish has a Care Group which, among other things seeks to provide meals to any parishoners in need.

Please be aware that the Care Group is very willing to help out if any families find themselves in need of this service.

Paint'n'Sip

Last Sunday, our Parent Forum's Paint'n'Sip fundraiser afternoon was a masterpiece of hilarity and artistic genius! With a delightful blend of music, wine, and a delectable grazing platter that could make Van Gogh drool, we transformed into the next generation of Frida Kahlos! As we dipped our brushes into the palette, our inner artists emerged like colourful unicorns on a caffeine rush. We not only raised funds for our school, but we also unleashed a tidal wave of laughter and giggles that could rival a comedy show. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the day, making it an occasion filled with endless fun. Cheers to laughter, creativity, and a whole lot of fun!
Please advise expressions of interest for a next session. You’ll thank us later.

Learning Partnership Conferences
St Anthony’s Learning and Teaching goal is for students to be assessment capable learners; gain clarity in their learning and develop assessment capabilities to maximise their learning potential.
This year, through an Inquiry approach we are changing the structure of our parent/ teacher meetings. Instead of the regular approach we are implementing Learning Partnership Conferences.
The conferences will be held during weeks 3 & 4 of term three.
These meetings will be designed as student led conferences in collaboration with parents and teachers.
Students will prepare for their conferences (with teacher support) by selecting and sharing evidence of their learning and learning goals.
During the conference parents and teachers will be invited to clarify goals and reflect on ways to support the students' learning journey.
Research suggests that a student-led approach encourages students to think critically about their own learning and to seek feedback. It also provides a sense of ownership leading to assessment capabilities to maximise their learning potential.
In addition, the Learning Partnership Conferences also foster a collaborative relationship between parents, teachers and students, ensuring that all parties are involved in the process of learning and supporting the student's growth.
We believe that this approach to parent/teacher meetings will not only engage students more deeply in their learning but also support their development as assessment capable learners, thus enhancing their overall educational experience.
We will seek feedback from parents, students and teachers leading up to and following the conferences to gain insights and find ways to further enhance this approach as we continually strive to improve student outcomes.

Making Jesus Real

These were the responses given by year 6 students in their session with Mitch yesterday.
What can you do to be a better team player at home?
By doing my jobs cheerfully without being reminded every day.
By being more kinder and pleasant to my siblings.
Less moaning groaning and complaining at home.
Give more compliments and encouraging words to my family members.
Being more grateful to my parents by saying “Thanks” 3 times a day every day at home.
By doing as I am asked cheerfully when I am asked t help.
Ask family members how their day was.
By keeping my room tidy and volunteer to do the dishes.
What is the main point that you have taken from our lesson today. What was your “Oh Yeah “ moment?
To have a positive attitude to people and life …DEPENDS WHICH SPIRIT I FEED daily.
To be more “Switched onto the Spirit of Jesus around me.
Attitudes are contagious …. is mine worth catching.
To Greet Treat and Speak to people as I would like to be treated.
Jesus works through me every day. ( many said that as they understood the prayer from St Teresa of Avila) which is pleasing.
After watching the video of the poor kids living on the tip , I realised how lucky and fortunate I am.
The Spirit of Jesus is in the little things that we say and do each day.
That I can be a better team player at home (TAH and at school (TAS).
That I can be more grateful for wha my parents do for me.
To get over our struggles and move on …. build a bridge …. and get over it.

Seasons for Growth

Dear Parent/Caregiver
The ‘Seasons for Growth’ program offers children who have experienced grief, loss or change in their lives the opportunity to talk to other children, of similar age, in a small group about their similar experiences.
‘Seasons’ was initially launched over 20 years ago and there is evidence indicating the program makes a very positive contribution to the social and emotional wellbeing of thousands of children and young people in Australia and overseas.
With the framework ‘Seasons’ provides, children are encouraged to focus on what they can do to make these changes or losses easier to live with. Each group operates with a trained adult companion, during school hours, on a weekly basis for about ten weeks.
St Anthony’s is very pleased to be able to offer this program again in our school and will commence in week 5. If you feel your child would benefit from ‘Seasons’ please complete the attached return slip.
Yours sincerely
Lynne Pull
Principal
