Newsletter Term 2 Week 9 (23.6.23)
From the Principal
Dear Parents
The last few weeks of Term 2 are always very busy but I must say that everyone is rising to the occasion and embracing all that is on offer.
Last week we celebrated St Anthony’s Day on the Tuesday followed by Verse Speaking on Wednesday and Thursday, with all classes performing their poems to the whole school and parents at Friday’s assembly. Congratulations to all the students and to the teachers who give the time for them to practise so that it is a polished performance in the end. We are extremely proud of our verse speaking achievements – it certainly is something that St Anthony’s has become well recognised for in the wider community. Well done everybody on such a great team event!
Next week will be our music groups on show in Murwillumbah at the Civic Centre. We haven’t been able to perform for the past three years so this will be extra special for us. The timetable is:
Monday: 9.30am: Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4) choir
Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6) choir
Small Vocal Group
Tuesday: after 10.00am: Beginner Band (non-competitive)
Wednesday: 9.30am: Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) Percussion group (selected students)
Year 1 choir – no actions
Year 2 choir – no actions
Year 1 choir – actions
Year 2 choir – actions
The Year 1 choir and the Year 2 choir are in two sections each.
On each of these days, students will be travelling by bus to Murwillumbah departing school at 8.45am on Monday and Wednesday and 9.00am on Tuesday. Please ensure you have completed permission for your child to attend if they are in these groups. Dress on each of these occasions is formal school uniform NOT sports uniform. This will particularly affect the students in Years 1 & 2 who normally wear sports uniform on Wednesday.
On Tuesday of this week we held a very successful athletics carnival. It was great to see everyone’s enthusiasm and participation. Congratulations to all on the terrific spirit on the day and well done to all those who won ribbons or medals for being age champions. Presentation House were the overall winners on the day. The team for zone will be announced shortly.
Next Wednesday we will hold our annual Orators Evening – the finals of our Public Speaking. The evening will commence at 6.00pm with the Kindergarten finalists, followed by finalists in Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2). Stage 2 finalists will follow (Years 3 & 4) and then Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6). Class teachers will notify you if your child is a finalist for the evening. All parents and students are welcome to attend. It is always such a good evening and a delight to witness our outstanding public speakers.
Congratulations to all those students who will be making their First Holy Communion this weekend. This is an important milestone in their faith journeys. We will keep them and their families in our prayers.
On Monday the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Limited Board will be visiting our school for a brief tour before heading to Pottsville for a Board meeting to which I have been invited. I look forward to welcoming them and showing them around as well as being able to share some of our achievements.
Please be advised that I will be doing Kindergarten interviews for 2024 in the first few weeks of next term. Please ensure you have booked an appointment time. Also please get this message out to anyone who is considering enrolling their child at St Anthony’s. Spaces are filling very quickly!
School will finish for the term on Thursday next week 29th June and will resume on Tuesday 18th July. Many thanks to all the parents for the many things you have done for the school during this term. Just being available to attend assemblies and special occasions is important so we do appreciate that. But many have also assisted in classrooms, library and canteen – thankyou again.
I want to wish you all a wonderful time in the school holidays with your children. Please encourage them to read daily. Keeping a diary or even writing poems and stories is also encouraged.
The Elimination Diet: Remove anger, regret, resentment, guilt, blame and worry. Then watch your health improve.
God bless
Lynne

This could include times of family sickness, new mums struggling to provide for the family in the early days of returning home, and many other circumstances of genuine need.
Please be aware that the Care Group is very willing to help out if any families find themselves in need of this service.
