Dear Parents
We were thrilled that so many came along for our Prayer and Assembly this morning to celebrate our mothers for Mothers Day on Sunday. Kindergarten delighted everyone with their Mum hearts and their song tribute to their mothers. We hope you all enjoyed a cuppa from the coffee van this morning and the yummy goodies. A little treat from the school to you! The perfect weather made for a beautiful morning too!
Many thanks to those who have completed the Tell Them From Me survey. If you haven’t already done so, please complete the survey today before it is closed off. It is important that we get a good sense of what people are thinking. The more responses the more representative the views of the community.
We have quite a few applications in already for Kindergarten next year. We will begin interviews later this term and early next term. If you have a child who is due to start school next year and you haven’t yet completed an application, we encourage you to do so sooner rather than later. Also if you know of anyone else considering St Anthony’s for their child’s education please encourage them to complete an enrolment application also.
If your child rides a bike to school, please remind them of the rules for this. They must wear helmets and they must walk their bikes inside the school/church grounds. Failure to do this will mean they may be banned from riding their bikes to school.
If you have a couple of hours free on Friday mornings, perhaps you might consider helping with the canteen. We really are in need of more helpers on all days but on Fridays in particular. Our volunteers have been very stretched and are struggling to keep up with the demand. We don’t wish to wear them out so they feel it is too much so please consider giving your assistance. We love those who already volunteer and don’t want to lose them.
Next Friday those students in Year 6 who have a leadership position are invited to a special Leadership Day at Twin Towns. More information will be supplied for those concerned.
Sunday 21st May is an opportunity for families to join the wider parish community at Mass at 9.00am in the church. School staff will be in attendance on this occasion. It is also a commitment Mass for students preparing for First Communion, however it is a chance for us all to worship together.
We have been advised that a child in Cabarita was recently accosted by a stranger. Parents please remind your children about the Stranger Danger rules: Don’t talk to strangers, Don’t take anything from a stranger and Don’t go with strangers. Please be vigilant around bus stops and ensure you are keeping a look out for your children.
All the Tweed Catholic Schools were due to have a pupil free day on Tuesday 30th May to facilitate Staff Proclaim. However, as the facilitator for the day is no longer able to attend, this day will not go ahead as was planned by the Catholic Schools Office. So it will be school as usual on 30th.
As we celebrate Mother’s Day let us be reminded of all those who mother, all those whose love is unconditional and forgiving, full of laughter and understanding, alive with optimism and plans, ready with wise words, life lessons and a warm embrace. We thank God for the integrity and dignity that each possesses as they give of themselves to those they love in a spirit of generosity and patience. Where would the world be without a mother’s love? May God bless all mothers abundantly. Have a wonderful day on Sunday.
Lynne

Here is a link to the survey, which takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
First Communion Workshop & Baptism
First Communion Workshop
On Wednesday we had our Family Workshops for students preparing to receive First Holy Communion. It was a great evening for parents and children to explore the meaning of the Sacrament and how we celebrate special events as a family and as the Church.
Families will attend a Commitment Mass on the weekend of the 20th and 21st of May.
Families will soon be notified what Mass to attend for their child’s First Communion.
Baptism
We will soon start preparing a number of students to receive the Sacrament of Baptism, which will initiate and welcome them to the Catholic faith.
If you would like your child to receive the Sacrament of Baptism and your child has a Catholic, Baptised Parent, please contact Gemma Ballantine gemma.ballantine@lism.catholic.edu.au

World Dwarf Games
As most of you may already know, our super sports star of Year 4, Floyd Morley, has been selected along with 40 other athletes to travel to Germany in July in the Olympics for little people ‘World Dwarf Games’. He will be competing in athletics, swimming, basketball and soccer. He will be representing Australia in the Junior Team with 8 others.
This is an amazing achievement for Floyd and the entire school community is looking forward to hopefully hearing about and watching you (online) compete in Germany.
We are having a ‘Zooper Dooper’ day on Tuesday 16th May where the students will be able to come to school dressed in their favourite sporting team colours. Students/families will also be able to donate towards Floyd’s team and each student who donates will get an ice block on the day.
If you would like to offer a sponsorship through your business or donate towards helping Floyd and his team get to Germany you can also contact Jade Morley directly on 0401 248 895, every little bit helps.
Zooper Dooper Mufti Day
DIDJERIBONE
On Monday the students were entertained by an extraordinary performer named Didjeribone. He told the students of many aboriginal traditions as to why places and animals are named. He was very engaging and vibrant with the students and teachers. His musical ability with the Didgeridoo was simply amazing. The students were enthralled by the sounds and constant melodies that he produced.
What a great way to start the week off. The entire school was thoroughly entertained for a full hour.
