Newsletter Term 1 Week 10 (28.3.23)
From the Principal
Dear Parents
We are delighted to have Wildfire, the Diocesan worship band, with us for Monday and Tuesday next week. They visited us last year and the students absolutely loved them. They play contemporary religious music and teach the children some new songs. Students engage in singing and dancing during their sessions with the band.
Holy Week begins on Sunday as we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, before the people turned against Him and he was betrayed, tortured and crucified. Our final liturgy for the term will be a reflective service focusing on the events of Holy Thursday and Good Friday, which will be held in the school COLA from just after 2.00pm on Thursday for all students. Parents are most welcome and encouraged to attend. Religion classes throughout the week will be centred on these events.
The greatest feast in the Christian calendar is Easter – the resurrection of Jesus. It is an occasion of great joy and hope for all. Easter falls during the school holidays but we will celebrate it when we return to school.
Families are encouraged to participate in the Holy Week ceremonies in the church:
Palm Sunday Mass 9.00am.
Holy Thursday Mass is 7pm.
Stations of the Cross 10.30 am on Friday.
The Passion of Jesus 3.00pm on Friday.
Easter Vigil Saturday 7.00pm.
Easter Sunday Mass at 9.00am.
We wish Year 5 all the best for their camp next Monday to Wednesday at Camp Goodenough. I know they will have a fantastic time.
Congratulations to Mrs Hincksman on the birth of her first grandchild, Harry, who was born last night!
During the week staff were introduced to the newest member of the Rochester family, third child baby Lucio. Congratulations to them all!
We were thrilled for all of our swimmers who were members of the Diocesan team at the Polding carnival in Sydney yesterday. It is a fantastic achievement to swim at that level and we were able to watch some of their races live. Some of our students have qualified for the Polding team for the PSSA carnival again in Sydney next week. Congratulations anod our best wishes for those involved!
As there will probably be no news letter next week, I would like to wish all our families the many blessings of the Easter season. Thank you for all your support throughout this busy term. We look forward to working in partnership again next term
Enjoy the holidays with the children. Encourage them to read/share stories daily!
When you arise each morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love. God’s spirit is close to us when we love.
God bless
Lynne

Meet the Assistant Principal - Mission

Wildfire, the Diocesan worship band

Wildfire
We are very much looking forward to our Diocesan band, Wildfire, coming on Monday and Tuesday to worship and pray with amazing music. They will be joined by a band of Youth Ministry Officers (YMOs). All students from K-6 will be engaging in a series of workshops titled ‘10:10’ from John’s Gospel where students will explore ways to experience God’s love, to see God’s love through others and radiate this themselves. This 10:10 experience is drawn from our Diocesan Mission: “Enabling students to achieve the fullness of life”.
All members of the parish school community are invited to a Worship Hour on Monday from 5-6pm at St Anthony’s Church, where Wildfire will lead us through prayer and song. Please see the flyer attached.

Holy Week

Holy Week is a very important time in the Church Calendar. It is sometimes referred to as the Easter Triduum, with 3 significant events leading to the celebration of Easter.
Holy Week starts with the celebration of Holy Thursday. Catholics remember Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples, which instituted the Sacrament of the Eucharist. During the Last Supper Christ washed the feet of His disciples, providing us an example of servant leadership we should follow, “I have given you example that you also should do,” John 13:15. Shortly after the Last Supper Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, was betrayed by Judas Iscariot, one of the 12 disciples, and arrested.
Good Friday marks the day Jesus was questioned by the Chief Priests, Pharisees and Pontius Pilate. Though Pilate was eager to release Jesus, he was afraid of the crowd and ‘washed his hands’ to free himself of responsibility. This is a good reminder to us to be courageous and not content to ‘go along with the crowd’. Jesus was tortured, crucified and died on the hill at Calvary, or Golgotha. There is a 3pm Good Friday service at St Anthony’s Church.
The last part of the Triduum is Easter Sunday. Jesus was missing from the tomb he had been laid in and began appearing to His followers. Jesus has overcome death and given us new life.
Please see the attached for our Parish Mass times for the Triduum
