Newsletter Term 1 Week 9 (24.3.23)
From the Principal
Dear Parents
We have had a wonderful week of happy times this week, sharing kindness and harmony, dressing in our favourite colours and donating to Caritas, and finishing today with our annual cross county event. Happy songs have sounded at bell times and we have all tried harder to be focused on happiness and harmony this week.
After the rain earlier in the week we were a bit concerned about the grounds but today was bright and sunny and the track was great for the cross country races. Well done to all students for taking part and finishing the course. Some ran all the way, others walked, some did a mixture. House colours were certainly visible in a range of fashions! There was a fantastic atmosphere as students encouraged one another. Year 6 despite their lengthy course were still fit enough to support their younger buddies in their races. One little kindergarten child asked me if we did this every year at the cross country as they couldn’t wait to do it all again!
Certificates and medals will be handed out on Monday morning at our assembly. Overall house champions and the team to represent St Anthony's at the zone carnival will also be announced.
I want to acknowledge all the staff who assisted with setting up the course, running the event and supporting the students to have a wonderful occasion. Many hours after school and again before school this morning were put in to ensure a successful event. It was great to see so many parents come along to watch the spectacle. We do have some fabulous runners in our school and congratulations to all those who will make it through to zone. But I want to congratulate everyone for their persistence to keep going to the end today and to everyone who encouraged their peers along the way. What a great way to end our “Happy Week”!
We would like to wish all those students from our school who are in the Lismore Diocesan Swimming team all the very best for the Polding carnival in Sydney this coming week. We look forward to hearing how well you go!
Have a great weekend everyone as we head into the final two weeks of term.
Kindness doesn’t cost a thing, yet it is the richest gift you can give.
Lynne

Year 6 Mt St Patrick College Taster Day 2023
On Wednesday 22nd March, Year 6 were invited to attend a Taster Day at Mt St Patrick’s College, Murwillumbah. Our students had a wonderful time experiencing a day in the life of a high school student.
Year 6 had a Science lesson in the Science Lab and our students got hands on using bunsen burners and experimenting with PH levels. The students also had a visit to the Technology Building and were amazed by the 3D printers, laser cutting machine and had the opportunity to use some tools to create a keyring. The highlight for many was the Food Tech lesson, where students displayed their Master Chef skills decorating their own cupcakes and tasting them! Some of the Year 11 students from the College then led our students on a school tour of the grounds and facilitated some games during the lunch break.
The teachers from the College and our Year 6 Teachers were most impressed by the behaviour and engagement from the St Anthony’s students. We thank the school principal, Mr Paul Reidy, and staff from Mt St Patrick’s College for organising this wonderful opportunity.
Student highlights of the day:
I enjoyed seeing the woodwork room and looking at all the different machines available in the tech area.

I loved the science lesson because we got to use the bunsen burners during our experiments and wear lab coats. Ivy M & Violet H
I liked the food tech lesson the most, because we got to eat our decorated cupcakes! Cruz G

St Anthony’s Woodwork Program
Yesterday was an exciting day for our Woodwork Program. We were finally able to watch our builders lay a concrete slab in front of our woodwork shed. This has been a work in progress for quite some time and was made possible through a $5000 grant from the Lend Lease Company.
Finally, gone are the days of working on timber pallets and tarps! The concrete slab will make our work much easier and streamlined and we look forward to continuing our projects and giving children more opportunities to experience new learning opportunities.
Many thanks to Mrs. Pull for her continued support of this program and Mrs. Angela Lockwood for facilitating the grant process.
Any donations of wood or reusable timber pieces would be gratefully accepted.
