Newsletter Term 1 Week 7 (10.3.23)
From the Acting Principal
Dear Parents
It has been a long break from school for me and I’m very pleased to have returned. The most notable difference has been that I don’t know the Kindergarten students but I’m sure that will be rectified quickly. I really appreciated the students, parents and staff's warm welcome back to St Anthony’s and by the way things have been busily happening today, a hectic year ahead awaits me. Thanks again.

PARENT FORUM
We will have our first Parent Form next Tuesday, March 14 at 6pm in the Staff Room. The Parent Forum is an opportunity to draw together the perspectives of families, school and parish for the common good. We are gifted with a diverse group of families in our schools with a range of backgrounds, insights and expertise to share. The Parent Forum is a great way to connect with other families at the school. New and existing families are very welcome and encouraged to come along

NAPLAN
Next week all Year 3 and 5 students across Australia will complete NAPLAN, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy. NAPLAN is a nation-wide assessment of students’ literacy and numeracy skills. It provides parents important insights into their child’s progress at school, and helps governments, education authorities and schools to see whether young Australians are reaching important literacy and numeracy goals. The students in these classes will complete four tests throughout next week from Wednesday to Friday; Mathematics, Reading, Writing and Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation).
We have given the students some practice tests, so they are confident and prepared to answer the questions according to the digital way they are presented. Some students are excited, but other students are nervous, so it is important to reassure your Year 3 or 5 child that this is one test on one day at one point in time. We are learning and growing with the children everyday they are at school and there are many more learning opportunities we use at St Anthony’s to assess knowledge and understanding and to celebrate progress.
We wish our Year 3 and 5 students all the best next week.

LENTEN PRAYER GROUP
It has been wonderful to have so many Stage 3 students joining our Lenten Prayer Group each week. A reminder that parents and parishioners are very welcome and it isn’t too late to join the prayer group. We have 3 more meetings before the end of the Term. We meet on Fridays from 8:20- 8:40 in the Library. Parents with young children are welcome to join and we can set up a play space to keep them occupied. A very warm welcome to you all; The Stage 3 students and St A’s staff would love to see you there.

Incitare Retreat 2023

On Tuesday the 7th of March, selected Year 6 students and Mrs Midson attended the Incitare Retreat Day. We joined other Catholic School students from the Tweed area to learn about provoking and understanding our special relationship with God. We talked about being the loyal disciples of Jesus, and we learned how to encourage others to live the Christ-like life of a dedicated Christian. On the day, we worked in teams led by the Youth Ministry Leaders of St Joseph's College. We reflected on themes related to courage throughout the day. To end the day we planned and participated in a liturgy to sum up the amazing experience of the Incitare Retreat Day. We were privileged to attend this special event and we look forward to leading our own class retreat day later this term. By - Raffa C & Elise E
Some highlights from the day…
We enjoyed the small group activities as we got to know more about the other year 6 students from different schools. We also enjoyed the time to reflect on our Christ- like actions throughout the day.We enjoyed meeting new people and seeing many different personalities. We loved meeting the year ten Youth Ministry Leaders from Saint Joseph’s College as they lead us in many different games and activities. We had three sessions throughout the day which included, reflecting on what we could not live without and how we could show that we are true Christians. By - Max C and Kobi M.
An amazing part of the day was the messages, they taught us how to provoke love and courage in others and ourselves. The main message of the day was: “Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, but encourage one another.”All of the games brought us together with other schools and widened our relationship with God. It helped us find true joy and how to listen to God. All the year 10 students helped us to connect with each other and taught us to have faith.
